Social Work Assistant Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a social work assistant in Indiana?
Most social work assistant roles in Indiana require at minimum an associate degree in human services or a related field, though many county agencies and hospital systems prefer a bachelor's degree in social work. Indiana does not require a separate state license specifically for social work assistants, but those planning to advance often pursue a Licensed Social Worker credential through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. Completing supervised field hours during your degree program significantly strengthens your application.
Which companies hire social work assistants in Indiana?
Companies currently hiring social work assistants in Indiana include Enhabit Home Health & Hospice, Faculty, and Amedisys, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana's large integrated health systems and county-level child services offices are consistently among the most active hiring sources for this role statewide.
Which Indiana cities have the most social work assistant jobs?
Evansville, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis have the most social work assistant openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the highest volume given its concentration of hospital systems, state agency headquarters, and nonprofit social services organizations, while Fort Wayne and Evansville generate steady demand through their regional medical centers and county family services offices.
Are there remote social work assistant jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Social work assistant roles are largely field-based and client-facing, so most positions require in-person presence. About 0% of social work assistant openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those that do allow remote work tend to be limited to administrative support, documentation, or care coordination tasks rather than direct client services.
How can I get hired as a social work assistant in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to Indiana's county offices of the Family and Social Services Administration, which regularly hire support staff and case aide positions that do not require prior professional experience. Indiana University Health and Eskenazi Health both run new-graduate onboarding cohorts for human services roles that pair you with a licensed social worker supervisor. Lateral moves from roles such as residential care aide, family resource specialist, or crisis hotline counselor also open doors, and completing a supervised field placement during your degree program gives you a concrete edge over candidates who have not yet worked directly with clients.
Where can I find and apply to social work assistant jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to social work assistant jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
