About this Role – Software Developer

We are looking for a talented Software Developer who has a passion for quality construction. This position designs and develops software applications supporting M. J. Electric and its subsidiary companies. Gathers and evaluates end-user requirements, develops build plans, and performs coding, debugging, testing, code review, and troubleshooting throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This role works closely with the Application Development team to support existing systems, deliver new applications, and modernize legacy tools — while actively incorporating AI-assisted development practices into daily work.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain new and existing applications, websites, and systems for MJE and subsidiary companies
• Gather and evaluate end-user requirements; develop build plans and project scopes
• Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to accelerate coding, debugging, code review, testing, and documentation — while validating output for accuracy, security, and adherence to team standards
• Create and maintain user documentation; train users on applications as needed
• Support all MJE policies and procedures, ensuring 100% SOX compliance
• Stay current with emerging technology and industry trends — including new AI/ML developer tools — and apply them to keep development practices current, secure, and efficient
• Collaborate with other team members, providing technical expertise to facilitate timely and accurate problem resolution

What You’ll Bring

• Programming and programming languages: C# / LINQ Queries; exposure to additional languages a plus
• ASP MVC / .NET Core / Razor Pages
• HTML / CSS / JavaScript; Kendo UI / jQuery a plus
• Exposure to React is a plus — not required, but a valuable skill as our team continues to grow its use of React for front-end development
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure) a plus
• Working knowledge of AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude, Copilot) — comfortable writing effective prompts, reviewing AI-generated code, and using AI tools responsibly for debugging and everyday development tasks
• Integrated Development Environment (IDE) proficiency and source code management software (e.g., Git)
• Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), software design, software engineering principles, and requirements specification
• Software testing and code analysis skills
• Excellent communication skills and proficiency in documenting processes
• Data and application troubleshooting skills
• Desire for growth — continually expanding technical skillset
• Entity Framework and/or Responsive Web Design experience a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, MIS, or related field
• 0–2 years of experience in application development preferred (not required)
• Kendo JavaScript Libraries/API a plus
