Software Development Manager Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software development manager in South Carolina?
Most software development managers in South Carolina reach the role by first building several years of hands-on engineering experience, then demonstrating leadership on project teams. South Carolina does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers across Columbia's government contracting sector and Charleston's growing tech scene typically want a bachelor's degree in a technical field and a history of leading delivered software projects, sometimes reinforced by a PMP certification or Agile credentials like CSM or SAFe Agilist.
Which companies hire software development managers in South Carolina?
Companies currently hiring software development managers in South Carolina include CVS Health, ScanSource, and EPAM Systems, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. South Carolina's mix of defense contractors, financial services firms, and healthcare technology organizations means openings are distributed across a wider range of industries than in most comparable-sized states.
Which South Carolina cities have the most software development manager jobs?
Columbia, Fort Mill, and Greenville have the most software development manager openings in South Carolina. Columbia leads because of the concentration of state government IT contracts and defense agencies near Fort Jackson, while Greenville draws from its manufacturing technology and financial services base, and Charleston benefits from a growing technology sector tied to aerospace, logistics, and port operations.
Are there remote software development manager jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields, because software development management is inherently a coordination and decision-making role that translates well to distributed teams. About 50% of software development manager openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting both national hiring patterns and local employer flexibility. Strategic planning, code review oversight, and cross-team coordination are the parts of the role most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a software development manager in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into a team lead or senior engineer role within a South Carolina employer and taking on informal management responsibilities before making a formal step up. Employers like Booz Allen Hamilton and CIBER, which support large government IT programs in Columbia, regularly develop engineers internally into management tracks. Building a portfolio of delivered projects and earning an Agile credential such as CSM or SAFe Agilist signals readiness without a formal management title on your resume.
Where can I find and apply to software development manager jobs in South Carolina?
You can find and apply to software development manager jobs in South Carolina directly on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and industry preference, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
