Software Quality Engineer Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software quality engineer in Delaware?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or software engineering is the standard entry point for software quality engineer roles in Delaware. The role carries no state-issued license or board registration requirement. Most Delaware employers expect demonstrated experience with automated testing tools and at least one scripting language. Earning a vendor-neutral certification such as ISTQB Foundation Level strengthens a candidate's profile with the financial services and pharmaceutical employers that dominate Delaware's tech hiring.
How much do software quality engineers make in Delaware?
Software quality engineers in Delaware earn a median of about $106,060 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,750 for the lowest 10% to over $143,880 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software quality engineers in Delaware?
Companies currently hiring software quality engineers in Delaware include Hologic, Qnity, and Telus, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of financial services headquarters, life sciences firms, and federal contractors means QA roles here frequently involve regulated software environments and compliance-heavy testing standards.
Which Delaware cities have the most software quality engineer jobs?
Newark, Wilmington, and Middletown account for the largest share of software quality engineer openings in Delaware. Wilmington drives the bulk of demand as the state's financial services hub, while Newark's proximity to the University of Delaware and a growing technology corridor attracts both startups and established contractors, and Dover's government and defense presence sustains a smaller but consistent pipeline of QA positions.
Are there remote software quality engineer jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 11% of software quality engineer openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves code review, test script development, and defect triage rather than on-site hardware interaction. Roles tied to embedded systems or regulated laboratory software are the most likely to require an in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a software quality engineer in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior QA analyst or QA associate role, which Delaware financial services and pharmaceutical firms post regularly as part of their technology development programs. Employers like Incyte and larger Wilmington-based banking institutions run rotational technology associate programs that include quality engineering tracks. Building a portfolio of automated test scripts on public repositories and earning the ISTQB Foundation Level certificate before applying gives candidates a concrete edge over other applicants without professional QA experience.
Where can I find and apply to software quality engineer jobs in Delaware?
You can find and apply to software quality engineer jobs in Delaware on Migrate Mate, which lists current Delaware openings updated in real time. Search the listings for the location, experience level, and specialization that fit your background, then apply directly to the roles that match.
