We are looking for a versatile, proactive, and sharp IT SystemsSupport Engineer to join our team to support our end users, cloud infrastructure, and network environment. If you are someone who enjoys solving a complex desktop issue in one hour and optimizing an AWS/Azure cloud environment or configuring a firewall the next, you will thrive and grow here.
The Role
You will provide top-tier desktop support to our team while managing and securing our hybrid cloud environments (AWSAzure), overseeing our network infrastructure, day-to-day security operations, and serving as our internal expert for Microsoft 365 and SharePoint. You will be a key point of contact for keeping our systems reliable, secure, and running smoothly.

- Network Operations: Deploy, configure, and maintain network devices (LAN/WAN, firewalls, and VPNs). Ensure high availability and optimal network performance.
- IT SecurityCompliance: Implement and monitor security best practices across endpoints, networks, and cloud environments (IAM, MFA, conditional access
policies, and patch management). Monitor systems and respond to security incidents; support endpoint protection, patching, and access controls.
- Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation for network diagrams, IT policies, asset management, and standard operating procedures.
- Vendor coordination: Escalate and collaborate with vendors or senior engineers on complex issues.
Required:
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in an IT Support, Systems Administration, or a related role.
- Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience managing resources within both AWS (EC2, S3, IAM) and Azure (Active Directory/Entra ID, Virtual Machines).
- Microsoft Ecosystem Expert: Deep knowledge of Office 365 administration and SharePoint management (including site creation, workflows, and permissions).
- Networking Foundations: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and firewall configuration.
- Security Mindset: Familiarity with endpoint security (EDR/Antivirus), identity management, and data loss prevention (DLP) strategies.

- Certifications such as: AWS SysOps Administrator, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator (AZ-104), CompTIA Security+, or CCNA.
- Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation.

Software Support Specialist Jobs in Reston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a software support specialist job in Reston?
Your best entry point in Reston is targeting the government IT contracting sector, which concentrates heavily around Reston Town Center and the Dulles Technology Corridor. Firms supporting federal agencies prize candidates with helpdesk or enterprise software experience, an active security clearance, or familiarity with ticketing platforms like ServiceNow or Jira. Tailoring your resume to specific contract environments, rather than generic support experience, gives you a real edge in this market.
Which companies hire software support specialists in Reston?
Companies currently hiring software support specialists in Reston include Meta, TD SYNNEX, and CVS Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Reston's employer mix skews heavily toward IT services firms, cloud platform providers, and federal contractors, many of whom maintain permanent support teams rather than relying solely on project-based hiring.
Are there remote software support specialist jobs in Reston?
Yes, though availability depends on the role: desk-based and application support positions are frequently remote-eligible, while on-site hardware or network support roles typically require a physical presence. About 47% of software support specialist openings tied to Reston are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the area's strong concentration of cloud and SaaS employers. Roles tied to classified federal contracts are the exception, as those almost always require in-person work.
How can I get a software support specialist job in Reston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Reston is landing a tier-one helpdesk or IT technician role with one of the area's many federal IT contractors, who regularly hire entry-level candidates and promote from within. Employers in Reston's government tech ecosystem often accept CompTIA A+ or similar certifications in place of a four-year degree. Gaining even a basic security clearance eligibility, or working toward one, significantly widens the field of employers willing to invest in a less experienced candidate here.
Which industries hire the most software support specialists in Reston?
The sectors hiring the most software support specialists in Reston are Technology & Software, Electronics & Hardware, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Reston's position as a hub for federal IT contracting and commercial cloud services means demand in these sectors is structural rather than cyclical, sustaining a consistent pipeline of support openings throughout the year.
