Job Description
Who will you be working with?
Our best-in-class Sourcing team is dedicated to ensuring that we provide our customers with highly-engineered machinery that exceeds their expectations. Here, working in coordination with our on-site Engineering team, you will source parts from both domestic and international suppliers so we meet our commitment to producing industry leading Maintenance of Way equipment.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Sourcing team, you will be responsible for the commodity strategy including supplier management and performance. In addition, the sourcing manager will own the budget and frame agreements for the commodity. Key metrics include cost, quality and delivery to support the needs of our business. Must be able to influence and win support from senior management at our suppliers as well as management at our company.
What do we want to know about you?
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or five (5) years of manufacturing experience
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in a Sourcing or related role or a minimum of eight years of purchasing experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
- ERP System (Syspro)

What will your typical day look like?
- Understand technical requirements, search for potential suppliers and assess their capabilities.
- Qualify new suppliers or assess problem suppliers.
- Prepare requests for quotes, analyze bids and make sourcing decisions.
- Procure prototype parts for new product programs and engineering changes on existing programs.
- Partner with corporate sourcing teams to leverage preferred sources.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including: engineering, materials, finance, quality & operations.
- Develop and manage strong supplier relationships and be the key point of contact.
- Manage supplier corrective actions and improvement plans for permanent solutions to problems.
- Establish goals with key suppliers manage performance reviews and make recommendations to address issues and exploit opportunities.
- Ability to drive lean/continuous improvement activities with suppliers.
- Lead activities to reduce supplier lead-times for management of working capital and improving responsiveness to our customers.
- Develop and manage supplier contracts in a manner that insures all requirements and special terms and conditions are met.
- Perform analysis of supplier spend data and achieve deflation budget.
- Lead commodity cost reduction projects.
- Work with suppliers and our engineering group to implement supplier cost saving ideas.
- Manage supplier contract pricing in our cost system.
- Negotiate price increases.
- Track spend vs forecast to manage a budget.
- Stay current with the industry on new ideas/opportunities within the commodities assigned.
- Challenge the status quo and look for internal opportunities to improve processes.
- Engage in supplier escalation to resolve issues with delivery and quality impacting the business.
- Ensure that standards of ethics and trust are followed and enforced.
What about the physical demands of the job?
Work is primarily light duty and requires the ability to regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. This position requires the ability to sit, stand and walk unassisted. Requires the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is required to talk and hear. Normal correctable vision is required.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $79100-112800. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include annual bonus, if eligible.
