INTRODUCTION
The South Shore Charter Public School is looking to hire a Long Term Substitute Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A) from May 1, 2026 through November 30, 2026. The SLP-A is responsible for providing speech therapy and other related services to students in either a one-on-one and/or small group setting under the supervision of an ASHA-certified and/or licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. The SLP-A is also expected to participate in collaborative training across disciplines as well as work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Status: Full Time = 100% FTE = 40 hours per week
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant is expected to perform and adhere to the following roles and responsibilities:
- Provide direct, specialized treatment as identified by the supervising SLP, by following the written Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Assist the supervising SLP with speech/language and hearing screenings, assessments, examinations, and testing without clinical interpretation of the results.
- Implement therapy goals in an individual setting and facilitate activities in a group setting as well as addressing social skills.
- Perform data collection duties as directed and record keeping of all services delivered.
- Document and record information regarding performance, progress, and discharge of students, report this information to the supervising SLP.
- Implement augmentative or alternative communication methods and instruction, including automated devices, computer technology, sign language, PECS, etc.
- Exhibit compliance with The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations, reimbursement requirements, and SLPAs' responsibilities.
- Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP.
- Participate in professional development.
- Offer intervention strategies to teachers, parents, and other staff targeting individualized student speech/language goals and objectives.
- Communicate regularly and openly with supervisors, therapy team members, and parents/guardians of child.
- Maintain accurate and timely submissions of paperwork, including data reports, etc.
- Work collaboratively and communicate with parents/families, other team members, and staff in a manner that emphasizes support for student success.
- Assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities, as directed by the SLP.
- Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
- Assist with departmental operations (scheduling, record keeping, safety/maintenance of supplies and equipment).
