Nursing Assistant Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nursing assistant in Massachusetts?
To work as a nursing assistant in Massachusetts, you must complete a state-approved training program of at least 75 hours, then pass the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation, which includes a written test and a skills demonstration. After passing, you are listed on the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry maintained by the Department of Public Health. Employers check this registry before hiring, so active registry status is required to work in any certified facility in the state.
Which companies hire nursing assistants in Massachusetts?
Companies currently hiring nursing assistants in Massachusetts include Cornerstone Caregiving, Next Step Health Care, and South Shore Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's dense network of academic medical centers, community hospitals, and long-term care chains means openings appear regularly and turnover-driven hiring is common year-round.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most nursing assistant jobs?
The cities with the most nursing assistant openings in Massachusetts are Boston, Milford, and Peabody. Boston leads because of its concentration of major hospital systems and teaching facilities, while Worcester and Springfield anchor their surrounding regions as the primary healthcare employers for central and western Massachusetts, drawing hiring volume from both urban facilities and nearby suburban care communities.
Are there remote nursing assistant jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. Nursing assistant work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring direct patient contact that cannot be performed remotely. About 22% of nursing assistant openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and most of those involve administrative support functions or telehealth coordination roles rather than direct bedside care.
How can I get hired as a nursing assistant in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in a Massachusetts-approved nursing assistant training program, many of which are offered free or at low cost through community colleges like Bunker Hill Community College or through long-term care facilities that sponsor training in exchange for a short work commitment. Mass General Brigham and Tenet Healthcare facilities in Massachusetts frequently hire graduates with no prior experience once they are listed on the state registry. Applying first to skilled nursing facilities and memory care units, where turnover is higher, improves the odds for candidates just entering the field.
Where can I find and apply to nursing assistant jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to nursing assistant jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your credentials and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
