Staff Devops Engineer Jobs in Vermont: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff devops engineer in Vermont?
Vermont does not require a state-issued license to work as a staff devops engineer, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical depth. Most hiring managers in Vermont expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field, combined with several years of progressive infrastructure or platform engineering experience. Vendor certifications from AWS, Google Cloud, or the Kubernetes ecosystem carry real weight with Vermont employers and help candidates stand out at the staff level.
How much do staff devops engineers make in Vermont?
Staff devops engineers in Vermont earn a median of about $125,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,480 for the lowest 10% to over $209,420 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire staff devops engineers in Vermont?
Vermont staff devops engineer roles are posted by State of Vermont, CVS Health, and GlobalFoundries and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Vermont's concentration of healthcare, financial services, and state government IT programs means staff-level DevOps talent is consistently in demand beyond just the tech sector.
Which Vermont cities have the most staff devops engineer jobs?
Montpelier, Essex Junction, and Vermont are the Vermont cities with the most staff devops engineer openings, driven largely by Burlington's status as the state's primary technology and healthcare hub, home to anchors like UVM Medical Center and a cluster of fintech and SaaS firms, while Montpelier sees demand tied to state government IT modernization contracts.
Are there remote staff devops engineer jobs in Vermont?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of staff devops engineer openings tied to Vermont are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how thoroughly the role's work can be done without a fixed physical location. Platform engineering, cloud infrastructure management, and pipeline development are the sub-areas most likely to be fully remote, while roles involving on-premises data center work or regulated healthcare systems more often require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a staff devops engineer in Vermont with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a systems administration, cloud support, or software engineering role into a junior DevOps or platform engineering position. Vermont employers including UVM Medical Center and state IT agencies regularly bring on associate-level infrastructure staff and provide hands-on exposure to CI/CD and cloud tooling. Building a visible portfolio on GitHub, earning an entry-level AWS or Google Cloud certification, and targeting DevOps engineer or infrastructure engineer roles before the staff level will make the progression concrete and achievable.
Where can I find and apply to staff devops engineer jobs in Vermont?
You can find and apply to staff devops engineer jobs in Vermont on Migrate Mate, which lists current Vermont openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, specialization, and preferred location or remote arrangement, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
