Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization in Business Systems Analysis
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check your degree's CIP code against the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List before targeting Business Systems Analysis roles. Degrees in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Industrial Engineering typically qualify, but the exact CIP code on your transcript determines eligibility.
Filter job postings by E-Verify status
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before you apply, not after an offer. Ask recruiters directly or search the E-Verify employer database. A business systems role at a non-enrolled employer disqualifies you from the 24-month extension regardless of how strong the offer is.
Build a business analysis portfolio early
Document process improvement projects, workflow diagrams, and requirements documentation from coursework or internships. Business systems hiring managers evaluate analytical artifacts, so a GitHub repository or portfolio site with real deliverables shortens the screening process significantly.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Systems Analysis roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications, which signals they understand the sponsorship process and have infrastructure for STEM OPT and H-1B transitions already in place.
Negotiate your I-983 training plan before accepting
Your employer must complete the I-983 training plan before your STEM OPT extension begins. Raise this during the offer stage, not after signing. Confirm the employer has an HR or legal team experienced with the formal mentorship and learning objective requirements USCIS expects.
Use the OFLC Wage Search to anchor salary discussions
Pull the prevailing wage for your target SOC code and location from the OFLC Wage Search before salary negotiations. Employers filing an LCA for a future H-1B must pay at least the prevailing wage, so knowing that floor protects you from offers that would create compliance problems later.

Find Business Systems Analysis JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Systems Analysis role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. Business Systems Analysis positions typically fall under SOC codes that align with Information Systems, Computer Science, or Industrial Engineering degrees. If your degree's CIP code appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List and your employer is enrolled in E-Verify, the role qualifies. Check your transcript's CIP code first.
How do I confirm my employer is enrolled in E-Verify before accepting an offer?
You can search the public E-Verify employer database directly through E-Verify's website using the employer's name or location. Alternatively, ask your recruiter or HR contact for the company's E-Verify company ID. Enrollment is required before your DSO can recommend the STEM OPT extension, so verify this before signing your offer letter, not after.
What should be included in the I-983 training plan for a Business Systems Analysis role?
The I-983 must describe specific learning objectives tied to your STEM degree, the practical training activities you'll perform, and how a supervisor will evaluate your progress. For business systems roles, this typically includes systems analysis projects, requirements gathering, and process modeling tasks. Generic job descriptions don't satisfy USCIS requirements. Your employer's HR or legal team should draft it with your DSO reviewing for compliance.
Where can I find Business Systems Analysis jobs with employers who sponsor STEM OPT?
Migrate Mate lists Business Systems Analysis roles filtered for employers with active sponsorship history, so you're not sorting through postings from companies that have never filed an LCA. You can also cross-reference the DOL's LCA disclosure data to see which employers have filed for systems analysis roles in your target location before you apply.
What happens to my STEM OPT authorization if my employer files an H-1B petition and I'm selected in the lottery?
If your employer files an H-1B cap-subject petition before your STEM OPT expires and you're selected, cap-gap protection automatically extends your STEM OPT work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. You can continue working without interruption as long as the petition was timely filed and your OPT was valid at the time of filing. USCIS governs cap-gap eligibility.
