KNIME Data & Analytics Engineer
W2 contract, min of 2 months
ONSITE out of Plano, TX
W2 $42/hr
Key Responsibilities
This role primarily supports Brand Execution and Retail Operations reporting. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Workflow Audit & Documentation: Audit and document the current library of Alteryx workflows, including macros, joins, formulas, data blending logic, and scheduled outputs that support Brand Execution and Retail Operations reporting.
- KNIME Migration & Validation: Rebuild and validate equivalent (or improved) logic in KNIME Analytics Platform, ensuring output parity with existing Alteryx-generated reports before cutover.
- AI-Enabled Reporting Solution: Design and build an AI-assisted internal reporting/dashboard solution (leveraging KNIME's AI extensions and/or other generative AI tools) to display migrated workflow output for internal stakeholders only - no external or customer-facing data exposure.
- Stakeholder Partnership & Sign-Off: Partner with the Business Process Manager and business stakeholders (channel managers, program managers) to confirm requirements, test outputs, and obtain sign-off on migrated workflows.
- Documentation & Knowledge Assets: Produce clear documentation: a workflow inventory, a migration runbook, a KNIME workflow style guide, and a summary of the AI reporting solution's architecture and data sources.
- QA & Issue Resolution: Perform QA and troubleshoot data discrepancies between legacy Alteryx outputs and new KNIME outputs, escalating and resolving issues quickly given the fixed project timeline.
- Knowledge Transfer & Training: Deliver a knowledge-transfer session to the internal team covering how to maintain, extend, and troubleshoot the new KNIME workflows and AI reporting tool after the engagement ends.
Key Technologies & Tools
- Data Preparation & ETL: Alteryx Designer, KNIME Analytics Platform, SQL
- Visualization & Reporting: Tableau, KNIME dashboard/reporting extensions
- AI & Automation: Claude, Gemini, KNIME AI extensions, or comparable generative AI tools
- Collaboration & Communication: Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook)
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- 3+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining workflows in Alteryx Designer (data blending, macros, spatial and predictive tools).
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with KNIME Analytics Platform; prior experience migrating workflows from another ETL/analytics tool into KNIME strongly preferred.
- Practical experience using AI/LLM tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini, or similar) to build, accelerate, or automate reporting and data solutions.
- Strong SQL skills and general ETL/data-blending proficiency.
- Familiarity with Tableau or comparable BI/visualization tools, and an understanding of how to translate existing dashboards into a new platform.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver production-ready results within an aggressive, fixed 60-day timeline.
- Excellent written documentation and stakeholder communication skills; comfortable presenting technical work to non-technical audiences.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience supporting retail operations, merchandising, or facility maintenance reporting (Brand Execution, fixture installs, compliance, or R&M reporting a plus).
- Background in business process management or process improvement.
- Experience deploying AI tooling in a data-governance-aware, internal-only environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's CIP code appears on the STEM OPT designated degree list. Data science, computer science, statistics, and applied mathematics programs commonly qualify, but management information systems degrees vary by institution and program title.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Search the E-Verify employer search tool to confirm a company is actively enrolled before signing anything. Enrollment must be current at the time your STEM OPT extension begins, not just when you apply.
Target companies with active LCA filings in analytics
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified E-Verify status and Labor Condition Application history in data and analytics roles, so you're applying to companies already set up to hire STEM OPT students.
File your I-983 training plan before your OPT expires
Your employer must sign a completed I-983 before your DSO can recommend the STEM OPT extension in SEVIS. Build in at least two weeks for internal review, since data and analytics managers often need HR approval before signing government training documents.
Match your I-983 learning objectives to real deliverables
USCIS expects your I-983 goals to reflect measurable technical development, not generic job duties. Frame objectives around skills like predictive modeling, ETL pipeline development, or A/B testing methodology rather than broad phrases like 'data analysis work.'
Ask about prevailing wage during salary negotiations
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage meeting DOL prevailing wage requirements for your SOC code and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level I through Level IV wages for data analyst and data scientist roles in your metro area before negotiating.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which STEM degrees qualify for the STEM OPT extension in data and analytics roles?
Degrees in computer science, statistics, mathematics, data science, information science, and engineering fields commonly appear on the STEM OPT designated degree program list. Management information systems and business analytics degrees may qualify depending on your institution's assigned CIP code. Your DSO can confirm whether your specific degree program is listed before you apply for the extension.
Does my data analytics employer need to be enrolled in E-Verify?
Yes. E-Verify enrollment is a hard requirement for STEM OPT employers. The company must be enrolled at the time your STEM OPT extension begins, not just when the job offer is made. Before accepting any offer, search the E-Verify employer search tool to confirm active enrollment. If a company isn't enrolled, you can't legally start work under the extension even if your I-765 is approved.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a data and analytics position?
The I-983 requires your employer to describe your job duties, the practical skills you'll develop, how those skills connect to your STEM degree, and how they'll supervise and evaluate your progress. For data and analytics roles, this typically covers technical competencies like statistical modeling, data visualization, machine learning applications, or database management. Both you and a company supervisor must sign the form before your DSO can process the extension.
How does cap-gap protection work if my H-1B is selected while I'm on STEM OPT?
If your H-1B visa petition is filed and accepted before your STEM OPT expires, cap-gap automatically extends your F-1 work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. Your employer doesn't need to take any additional action beyond the H-1B filing. If your H-1B petition is approved, your status changes to H-1B on October 1. If it's denied or withdrawn, cap-gap protection ends and you must stop working.
Where can I find data and analytics employers who are set up to hire STEM OPT students?
Migrate Mate lists data and analytics jobs at employers verified for E-Verify enrollment and Labor Condition Application filing history, so you're not guessing about a company's ability to hire STEM OPT students. You can filter by role type and location to surface companies that have an established process for supporting F-1 workers through the extension period.
