Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Data Engineering Manager
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's CIP code appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Data engineering roles often align with computer science or information systems codes, but your specific program title may require confirmation from your DSO.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Any employer hiring you on STEM OPT must be actively enrolled in E-Verify, not just registered. Ask the recruiter for their E-Verify company ID and cross-check it on the E-Verify employer search before signing anything.
Build your I-983 training plan around manager-level deliverables
Data Engineering Manager roles require an I-983 that maps your learning objectives to concrete outcomes like pipeline architecture decisions, team mentorship, and cross-functional data governance work, not just technical tasks your reports handle.
Target employers with active H-1B LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Data Engineering Manager roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications, which signals they understand and have executed visa sponsorship processes rather than encountering them for the first time with your offer.
Negotiate your start date around USCIS processing windows
File your STEM OPT extension application up to 90 days before your initial OPT expires. If USCIS hasn't adjudicated by your end date, your 180-day cap-gap period keeps you authorized, but your start date should account for EAD card delivery time.
Use the OFLC Wage Search to anchor your salary discussion
Data Engineering Manager roles have a defined prevailing wage by metropolitan area. Pull the Level II and Level III figures from the OFLC Wage Search for your target city so you can evaluate whether an offer meets or undercuts the DOL standard before accepting.

Find Data Engineering Manager JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Data Engineering Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your degree is in an eligible STEM field such as computer science, information systems, or data science, and appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. The role itself doesn't determine eligibility; your degree's CIP code does. Confirm your specific program with your DSO before applying for the extension.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my STEM OPT employer?
Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify for the specific site where you'll work, not just at the company level. Multi-site companies sometimes have location-level enrollment gaps. Ask HR for the E-Verify company ID tied to your work location and verify it directly through the E-Verify employer search before your extension is approved.
How should the I-983 training plan reflect a management-level role?
A Data Engineering Manager's I-983 must document concrete learning goals tied to your management functions, such as designing scalable data infrastructure, leading engineering teams, and implementing data governance frameworks. Generic objectives that mirror an individual contributor's work will draw scrutiny from USCIS. Your employer's HR or immigration contact should co-sign a plan that reflects actual managerial scope.
What happens to my STEM OPT authorization if my job offer is delayed?
If you've filed your STEM OPT extension before your initial OPT expires, a 180-day cap-gap period keeps your work authorization intact while USCIS adjudicates. You can't start a new job during this period under a different employer without a separate authorization. Time your application filing to the 90-day window before expiration to maximize this buffer.
Where can I find Data Engineering Manager roles at E-Verify enrolled employers?
Migrate Mate filters Data Engineering Manager job listings by employers with verified sponsorship history, including E-Verify enrollment and LCA filing records, so you're not cold-calling companies to ask about their immigration infrastructure. Searching there narrows your list to employers already equipped to support your STEM OPT extension and any future H-1B transition.
