Job summary
At The SSL Store, owned by Rapid Web Services, LLC, the IT Administrator is more than just some back-end support staffer. Responsibilities include supporting 3rd party and proprietary software and hardware implementation and maintenance. Of course, your primary focus is to keep the office running seamlessly, this includes resolving issues with employees’ workstation computers, phones and our internal network but you may also be called on to perform a variety of moderately complex support duties including but not limited to: implementation and maintenance of Laptops, Desktops, Computer Peripherals, Active Directory domain controllers and servers, application servers, file servers, phone systems, software (i.e.. Office 365, Windows OS, Mac OS, Email / Phone administration). A working knowledge of web-hosting environments and/or AWS configuration is a plus.
What you will do
- Providing assistance in the use, installation, and maintenance of workstation and domain computers and printers.
- Setting up and configuring desktop, laptop and mac hardware as well as peripherals to ensure smooth daily workflows.
- Installing and configuring software and accounts assigned to employees with respect to their department.
- Administering employee accounts (i.e.: Active Directory, VPN, Office 365, Email accounts, Phone accounts, Support Desk Tools, etc.…).
- Assisting with Password and Security Credential assignment, safe-keeping, and maintenance.
- Conducting inventory and asset management.
- Documenting existing and future business processes.
- Creating scripts for automated internal processes.
- Providing basic troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of computer and phone equipment in a timely fashion.
- Staying up to speed with modern technologies, techniques, and methodologies.
- Providing guidance and insight on latest technologies and methodologies to help the team learn and adapt so that we collectively become more productive, work smarter and more efficiently.
- Monitoring internal network performance and provide suggestions and solutions to issues.
- Working with software developers to configure web hosting environments in-house and in the cloud.
What you will have
- 2+ years of experience in IT administration.
- Strong computer & Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience in networking infrastructure and configuration.
- Great oral and written communication.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to quickly context switch between different platforms, infrastructures, etc.

Does an IT Administrator role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
IT Administrator roles typically qualify when your degree is in a STEM-designated field such as computer science, information technology, information systems, or computer engineering. The job title alone doesn't determine eligibility. Your degree's CIP code must appear on the ICE STEM Designated Degree Program List, and your DSO must approve the extension on your I-20 before you start work.
How do I confirm my employer is enrolled in E-Verify?
Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify before you begin working on the STEM OPT extension. You can ask your HR contact for the company's E-Verify client ID or request the E-Verify Employer Memorandum of Understanding. USCIS requires this enrollment as a condition of the extension, and working for a non-enrolled employer puts your status at risk. What goes into an I-983 training plan for an IT Administrator position?
The I-983 Training Plan must detail your specific job duties, the practical skills you'll develop, and how the training connects to your STEM degree. Can I switch IT Administrator employers while on STEM OPT?
Yes, but you must update your I-983 training plan with the new employer and have your DSO record the change in SEVIS within ten days of starting. The new employer must also be enrolled in E-Verify. You can't work for an employer without meeting both requirements, even if your EAD card is still valid. A gap between jobs is permissible if it falls within the unemployment limit set by USCIS for OPT students.
How does cap-gap work if my employer sponsors my H-1B while I'm on STEM OPT?
If your employer files an H-1B petition before your STEM OPT EAD expires and USCIS selects it in the lottery, cap-gap extends your work authorization through September 30 of that year, when H-1B status begins. You can continue working in your IT Administrator role throughout the cap-gap period without interruption. If the petition is not selected, your STEM OPT end date applies, and you'll need to stop working or depart unless another status applies.
