ABOUT THE ROLE
As the IT Support Engineer, you aren’t just keeping the lights on; you are a core player that powers our internal growth. In this role, you will move beyond standard ticket closing to being the technology advocate for our identity solutions and SaaS integrations that support our scaling workforce. You’ll be the face for the entire IT organization, turning manual tasks into streamlined, secured, and automated workflows that allow us to scale securely.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for hardware, software, and access requests across our fully distributed team, triaging and resolving issues efficiently with a high standard for response time and quality.
- Build and maintain automations and AI workflows using tools like Okta Workflows, n8n, OpenAI, Claude and similar platforms to streamline provisioning, requests, and routine operational work.
- Execute end-to-end onboarding and offboarding workflows in partnership with our People team, including account provisioning/deprovisioning, Google Workspace account management, SaaS access grants and revocations, and enterprise fleet management.
- Manage Mac and Windows device lifecycle through Kandji and Jumpcloud MDM: procurement, enrollment, configuration, app deployment, compliance enforcement, and secure wipe/retrieval.
- Administer identity and access management in Okta, including SSO configuration, group management, and SCIM integrations.
- Support IT security initiatives including endpoint compliance, access audits, and Device Trust enforcement in partnership with the Security/Technical Compliance team.
- Identify inefficiencies, document processes, and build self-service resources that scale IT operations as the company grows.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2–4+ years of hands-on IT Support, Systems Administration, or IT Engineering experience, preferably in a remote-first or distributed environment.
- Extensive experience in administering Okta (SSO, MFA, lifecycle management, group/policy configuration) — this is a must-have.
- Working experience administering macOS and Windows devices at scale using an MDM platform (Kandji and Jumpcloud strongly preferred).
- Working experience in building automations using Okta Workflows, scripting (Bash/Python), and API integrations to streamline provisioning, offboarding, and recurring IT operations.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace administration (user management, OUs, Groups, GAM is a plus).
- Strong customer service instincts and clear written communication — you’re someone teammates trust to solve their problems quickly and keep them informed.
- Comfort working in a security-conscious environment with exposure to access audits, compliance standards, and endpoint security tooling.
- A proactive, continuous-improvement mindset — you look for root causes, document what you learn, and reduce repeat issues over time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with CrowdStrike or similar security tooling.
- Familiarity with Linear, Freshservice, Jira, or similar ITSM/ticketing platforms.
- Experience with identity governance concepts (least privilege, RBAC, JIT access).
- Experience running SaaS license audits and access cleanup projects.
- Exposure to Workday or HRIS integrations with identity platforms.
- Experience in high-growth environments.
- Okta Certified Administrator or similar IT certifications.
Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $120,000 plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills and experience, among other things.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:
- Unlimited PTO for full-time employees (we're extremely flexible with the exception of the first few weeks before & into the NFL season).
- 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
- Home office stipend.
- A connected virtual-first culture with a highly engaged distributed workforce.
- 5% 401k match, FSA, company paid health, dental, vision plan options for employees and dependents.
LI-REMOTE
We're a remote-first company and value in-person connection. That said, we expect everyone to gather 2-3 times per year for team and company offsites, trainings, and more.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as an IT Support Engineer
Verify your CIP code before applying
Pull your degree's CIP code from your I-20 and cross-check it against the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. IT Support Engineer roles typically align with CIP codes under Computer and Information Sciences, but mismatches can disqualify your extension.
Filter employers by E-Verify enrollment status
An employer who isn't enrolled in E-Verify legally cannot employ you on a STEM OPT extension. Ask hiring managers directly during screening calls, or search E-Verify's employer search to confirm enrollment before investing time in an application.
Target IT infrastructure teams at mid-size firms
Smaller IT departments often lack HR bandwidth to manage OPT paperwork, while enterprise help desks may route hiring through staffing agencies that can't sponsor STEM OPT. Mid-size firms with internal IT teams tend to offer the right structure without excessive bureaucracy.
Draft your I-983 training plan early
USCIS requires a signed I-983 before your STEM OPT extension starts. Map your IT Support Engineer duties to specific learning objectives covering systems administration, troubleshooting methodology, or network support so your DSO and employer can review it without delays.
Use Migrate Mate to find E-Verify confirmed employers
Searching for IT Support Engineer roles that actively hire STEM OPT students is faster when you can filter by verified employer eligibility. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with confirmed E-Verify enrollment so you skip the manual vetting step.
Time your application around cap-gap protection
If your initial OPT expires while an H-1B visa petition is pending for October 1, cap-gap rules let you keep working. File your STEM OPT extension with your DSO well before your EAD expires so there's no gap in authorization if the H-1B lottery timing overlaps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an IT Support Engineer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not just your job title. Your I-20 must list a CIP code on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, typically under Computer and Information Sciences or Information Technology. The role itself also needs to be directly related to that field. Review the O*NET profile for IT Support Engineer to confirm the degree alignment your employer will need to document on your I-983.
What does my employer need to do to hire me on STEM OPT?
Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify before your STEM OPT extension start date. They also need to sign your I-983 training plan, which outlines the learning objectives tied to your IT Support Engineer duties. USCIS requires the I-983 on file with your DSO before the extension is authorized. Employers who've hired OPT students before will recognize this process, but confirm E-Verify enrollment during the offer stage, not after you've signed.
How do I find IT Support Engineer jobs from employers who accept STEM OPT?
E-Verify enrollment is the hard requirement, and not every job posting discloses it upfront. Migrate Mate filters IT Support Engineer roles by employers with confirmed E-Verify enrollment, so you're not spending time on applications that will stall at the offer stage. You can still follow up directly with any employer to confirm their enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for an IT Support Engineer?
The I-983 must describe how your day-to-day responsibilities connect to your STEM degree. For an IT Support Engineer, that means mapping duties like network troubleshooting, systems administration, hardware diagnostics, or ticketing workflows to specific technical competencies from your degree program. Generic job descriptions don't satisfy the requirement. Your employer signs the form, and your DSO submits it to update your SEVIS record before your extension activates.
Does cap-gap protection apply if my OPT expires before October 1 during H-1B season?
Yes, if your employer files an H-1B petition before your OPT EAD expires and you're selected in the lottery, cap-gap protection extends your work authorization through September 30 or until USCIS adjudicates the petition, whichever comes first. For IT Support Engineers on STEM OPT, this means you can keep working during the gap without interruption. Your STEM OPT extension must already be approved and active when the H-1B is filed for cap-gap to apply.
