That's where KLA comes in. Whether you're early in your career or an experienced professional, you'll solve complex challenges, work alongside brilliant minds and help shape the future of technology.
Group/Division
The KLA Services team consists of Service Sales, Marketing, Spares Supply Chain Management, Field Operations, Engineering, Product Training, Digital Solutions and Analytics, and Technical Product Support. Our services organization maximizes the value of our customers' KLA assets – with highly trained service and product support engineers providing installation services and 24/7 technical support and parts delivery through our extensive supply chain network.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Join KLA as a Technical Product Support Engineer providing advanced troubleshooting support for sophisticated semiconductor capital equipment. This is a hands-on, equipment-focused engineering role centered on diagnosing and resolving complex optical, electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, computer-control, and integrated software issues—not corporate IT, desktop support, or help-desk support. You will serve as the second point of escalation when field product support teams have been unable to isolate or resolve an equipment problem. Working with field engineers, product specialists, and engineering teams, you will help determine root cause, develop an effective recovery plan, and restore equipment performance for our customers. This description retains the internally reviewed responsibilities for unresolved KLA equipment issues, short-notice worldwide field support, technical reporting, training, and 40–70% domestic and international travel.
What You’ll Do:
- Serve as the second-level technical escalation resource for ongoing issues involving KLA semiconductor equipment when field product support teams are unable to resolve the problem.
- Assist field engineers with diagnosing, troubleshooting, and debugging sophisticated optical, electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical equipment, including computer-control systems and integrated software solutions.
- Apply in-depth system knowledge and a strong understanding of equipment operating principles to isolate complex or ambiguous failures.
- Perform hands-on, system-level problem solving to identify root cause, determine corrective action, and minimize equipment downtime.
- Exercise sound technical judgment within broadly defined practices and policies when selecting troubleshooting methods, diagnostic techniques, and recovery actions.
- Collaborate with product specialists, engineering teams, field organizations, and other technical partners to develop an optimized plan of action.
- Drive escalated issues toward resolution, restore equipment functionality, and support a positive customer outcome.
- Travel to customer locations regionally and worldwide, sometimes on short notice, to support critical escalated issues on-site.
- Document troubleshooting processes, diagnostic results, technical findings, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
- Prepare clear service reports and postmortem reports following significant technical events.
- Support equipment installation, relocation, modification, or upgrade activities as needed.
- Provide technical training, knowledge transfer, and troubleshooting guidance to field engineers and other technical personnel.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated hands-on equipment problem-solving and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience working with semiconductor manufacturing equipment, semiconductor capital equipment, or other sophisticated capital equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot integrated systems involving optical, electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, computer-control, and software components.
- Ability to move beyond symptom identification and perform structured fault isolation and root-cause problem solving.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across field service, product support, engineering, and specialist teams.
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly through written reports, troubleshooting documentation, and technical training.
- Ability to remain customer-focused and solution-oriented while supporting urgent or high-impact equipment issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Level Degree and 0 years related work experience; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 2 years or equivalent years of experience.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Technical Product Owner
Verify your degree qualifies under CIP codes
STEM OPT eligibility depends on your degree's CIP code appearing on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program list. Confirm your specific major maps correctly before applying, since degrees in information systems or management information systems sometimes require verification with your DSO.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Every employer hiring you on STEM OPT must be enrolled in E-Verify, not just willing to enroll. Ask hiring managers for their E-Verify Company ID or check the E-Verify employer search tool directly before signing any offer letter.
Target product teams in STEM-heavy industries
Technical Product Owner roles at software, fintech, biotech, and defense companies are more likely to involve STEM-qualifying work and have legal teams familiar with I-983 training plans. Focus your search on companies whose core product is built on engineering or data infrastructure.
Document STEM nexus in your I-983 training plan
Your I-983 must show a direct connection between your STEM degree and your Technical Product Owner duties. Specify how you apply engineering principles, data analysis, or systems architecture in your day-to-day responsibilities rather than describing generic project management tasks.
Negotiate offer timing around your OPT end date
If your initial 12-month OPT expires before your STEM extension is approved, a cap-gap rule protects your authorization only if you're transitioning to H-1B visa. Otherwise, submit your STEM OPT extension application to USCIS at least 90 days before your EAD expires to avoid a work authorization gap.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified STEM OPT employers
Searching broadly wastes time on companies that have never filed for international talent. Migrate Mate filters Technical Product Owner roles by employers with active sponsorship history, so you can focus on companies already set up to support your STEM OPT authorization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Product Owner role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your specific duties and degree. If your Technical Product Owner role requires applying knowledge from a STEM field such as computer science, software engineering, or information systems, and your degree carries an eligible CIP code on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program list, the role can qualify. Your DSO will assess the connection when approving your I-983 training plan.
What must my employer do to hire me on STEM OPT?
Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify and sign your I-983 training plan, which outlines how the role applies your STEM degree. They're also required to report material changes to your training, provide mentorship aligned with your learning objectives, and confirm continued E-Verify participation for the duration of your STEM OPT extension. Employers who let their E-Verify enrollment lapse put your work authorization at risk.
How does the I-983 training plan apply to a Technical Product Owner position?
The I-983 must describe concrete STEM-related learning objectives tied to your actual job duties, not just your job title. For a Technical Product Owner, that means documenting how you apply systems thinking, data-driven decision-making, or engineering methodologies to product development. Vague descriptions like 'managing a backlog' without a STEM connection are common reasons DSOs request revisions before approving the plan.
Does cap-gap protection apply if my OPT expires while I'm waiting for H-1B approval?
Cap-gap extends your work authorization automatically if your employer filed an H-1B petition before your OPT EAD expired and you were selected in the lottery. It covers the period between OPT expiration and October 1, when H-1B status begins. USCIS provides cap-gap guidance on their website. If you're not transitioning to H-1B, cap-gap does not apply, and your STEM OPT extension must be approved before your current EAD expires.
Where can I find Technical Product Owner jobs that support STEM OPT?
Migrate Mate lists Technical Product Owner roles filtered by employers with sponsorship history, making it easier to identify companies already familiar with STEM OPT requirements and E-Verify enrollment. Targeting employers with an established international hiring process reduces the back-and-forth around I-983 training plan approval and E-Verify confirmation that can slow down offers at companies hiring international candidates for the first time.
