Substation Engineer

This position reports to the Manager of Engineering and System Planning and is located at the Ed Fischer Operations Center, 8600 NE 117th Avenue, Vancouver, WA. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm.

WHAT YOU WOULD DO:

This position works both independently and collaboratively within a small team responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of substations, transmission and distribution facilities, utility material/construction standards and the SCADA system. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Design physical and electrical layouts, one-line diagrams, wiring schematics and construction plans for 12kV, 69kV and 115kV equipment ensuring compliance with industry codes and safety standards.
• Detailed designs for equipment arrangement, BOM, bus works, grounding systems, arrestor selection, insulation coordination calculations along with AC and DC auxiliary system sizing calculations.
• Manage civil, structural, system protection, permitting teams and contractors to align equipment foundations, cable trenches and control room integrations.
• Develop and review technical specifications for major substation component bid packages and final selection.
• Conduct site visits, review contractor submittals and support factory acceptance testing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years of experience with some, or all, of the listed duties and responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have experience with drafting software, enjoy mentoring junior engineers, preferred to have an EIT / PE, and demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with others, including effectively presenting information, responding to questions from other employees and customers and having effective written and oral communication skills.

This position is designated as safety-sensitive due to the nature of the work and its potential impact on the safety of employees, the public, and organizational operations. BENEFITS:

SALARY:

Engineer: Minimum: $100,194 Midpoint: $123,945 Maximum: $147,696

Senior Engineer: Minimum: $112,310 Midpoint: $140,916 Maximum: $169,520

Principal Engineer: Minimum: $136,786 Midpoint: $166,479 Maximum: $196,171

Consideration may be made for a Senior or Principal Engineer based on demonstrated experience and qualifications.
