Field Superintendent – Interior Construction

Position: Field Superintendent – Interior Construction

We are seeking an experienced Field Superintendent to oversee interior construction activities for a 60-unit residential building in Linden, New Jersey. The Superintendent will be responsible for day-to-day field operations, coordination of subcontractors and MEP trades, quality control, scheduling, inspections, and ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with the plans, specifications, applicable building codes, and project schedule.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on knowledge of interior construction and the ability to supervise multiple trades while maintaining quality, safety, schedule, and coordination among all project participants.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate all interior construction activities for the 60-unit building.
• Coordinate and sequence the work of subcontractors and multiple trades to maintain the project schedule.
• Supervise interior roughing, framing, drywall/sheetrock, carpentry, painting, firestopping, insulation, flooring, doors/hardware, finishes, and related work.
• Coordinate closely with MEP subcontractors, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other trades.
• Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and details to ensure work is installed correctly and in the proper sequence.
• Monitor subcontractor manpower, productivity, work quality, and progress.
• Conduct daily field inspections and identify deficiencies or conflicts before they affect the schedule or subsequent trades.
• Enforce quality control procedures and ensure corrective work is completed properly and in a timely manner.
• Verify that work complies with approved drawings, specifications, applicable building codes, and project requirements.
• Coordinate inspections, testing, and required hold points with inspectors, consultants, subcontractors, and the project management team.
• Maintain organized daily field reports, inspection records, progress documentation, photographs, and punch lists.
• Coordinate material deliveries, site logistics, access, and work areas to avoid conflicts between trades.
• Identify potential construction issues, design conflicts, and MEP/interior coordination problems and communicate them to the Project Manager.
• Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation as required.
• Track and manage punch-list items through completion.
• Conduct quality-control inspections of completed work and ensure deficiencies are corrected before turnover.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
• Participate in construction meetings and provide updates regarding field progress, schedule, manpower, quality, and potential issues.
• Maintain positive and professional relationships with subcontractors, consultants, inspectors, owners, and the project management team.
• Ensure work is properly sequenced so that one trade does not interfere with or damage the work of another trade.

Required Experience & Knowledge

• 10+ years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, Field Superintendent, General Superintendent
• Strong experience with multifamily residential or similar building construction.
• Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of:
• Framing and carpentry
• Drywall/sheetrock
• Insulation
• Kitchen Installations
• Interior roughing
• Doors and hardware
• Painting
• Flooring and finishes
• Firestopping
• Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other MEP systems
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and coordination between trades.
• Working knowledge of building codes, construction standards, plans, specifications, and inspection requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
• Strong quality-control and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to identify construction deficiencies and coordinate timely corrections.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and activities simultaneously.
• Proficiency with construction documentation and standard project management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multifamily residential projects
• OSHA safety training/OSHA 30 preferred.
• Construction-related degree or equivalent field experience preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $130,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
