Systems Engineer Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a systems engineer in New Jersey?
Most systems engineer roles in New Jersey require a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. New Jersey does not issue a state-specific license for systems engineers, so hiring is credential-driven rather than board-regulated. Certifications from the International Council on Systems Engineering, such as the ASEP or CSEP, are widely recognized by New Jersey defense and technology employers and give candidates a concrete edge in a competitive market.
Which companies hire systems engineers in New Jersey?
Employers hiring systems engineers in New Jersey right now include AMD, Logiqal, and L3Harris, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense cluster of defense primes, telecommunications carriers, and pharmaceutical companies means demand is spread across multiple industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which New Jersey cities have the most systems engineer jobs?
Camden, Princeton, and Secaucus account for the largest share of systems engineer openings in New Jersey. Newark anchors the market as the state's primary commercial hub, while Parsippany draws volume from the defense and technology campuses concentrated along the Route 287 corridor, and Cherry Hill benefits from proximity to Philadelphia-area aerospace and government contractors with New Jersey operations.
Are there remote systems engineer jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely software-focused roles, because systems engineering frequently involves hands-on hardware integration, lab work, and on-site coordination with cross-functional teams. About 52% of systems engineer openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with remote eligibility most often attached to requirements analysis, documentation, and model-based design tasks rather than physical testing or integration work.
How can I get hired as a systems engineer in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate systems engineer or systems integration analyst role at one of New Jersey's large defense or telecommunications employers, where structured new-graduate programs provide mentorship and rotational exposure. Lockheed Martin and Verizon both run early-career engineering programs in New Jersey that accept candidates with a relevant degree and no prior professional experience. Pursuing an INCOSE ASEP certification while still in school, and building a portfolio of capstone or lab projects that demonstrate requirements traceability and integration testing, meaningfully strengthens an application.
Where can I find and apply to systems engineer jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to systems engineer jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and target industry, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
