Systems Integration Specialist Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a systems integration specialist in Illinois?
Most Illinois employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or information systems as the foundation. Illinois does not require a state-issued license specifically for systems integration work, but roles involving industrial automation or building systems may intersect with licensed trades. Candidates who add vendor-specific certifications in platforms like Cisco, SAP, or Rockwell Automation significantly strengthen their profiles for Illinois manufacturers and defense contractors.
How much do systems integration specialists make in Illinois?
Systems integration specialists in Illinois earn a median of about $101,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,770 for the lowest 10% to over $144,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire systems integration specialists in Illinois?
Employers hiring systems integration specialists in Illinois right now include Northrop Grumman, Amazon, and Collins Aerospace, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's dense manufacturing corridor and large defense and healthcare IT footprint mean demand is distributed across both the Chicago metro and mid-state industrial centers like Peoria and Rockford.
Which Illinois cities have the most systems integration specialist jobs?
The cities with the most systems integration specialist openings in Illinois are Chicago, Rolling Meadows, and Rockford. Chicago dominates the list because of its concentration of enterprise technology firms, defense contractors, and large hospital networks, while cities like Rockford and Peoria reflect the strong manufacturing base that generates steady demand for industrial control and automation integration work.
Are there remote systems integration specialist jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're limited. Much of the work requires on-site access to hardware, control systems, or secure facility environments, so fully remote roles are the exception rather than the rule. About 75% of systems integration specialist openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to concentrate on the software integration, architecture, and documentation phases of projects rather than physical installation or commissioning.
How can I get hired as a systems integration specialist in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior systems analyst, IT support engineer, or automation technician role at a mid-size Illinois manufacturer or systems integrator, where you can build hands-on experience alongside senior engineers. Large Illinois employers like Caterpillar and Boeing run rotational engineering programs and co-op pipelines that place new graduates into integration-adjacent assignments. Earning a foundational certification in networking or an industrial platform like Rockwell Automation before applying gives candidates a concrete edge when competing without a full work history.
Where can I find and apply to systems integration specialist jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to systems integration specialist jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings for this role. Search the listings, find the roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
