Tax Director Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a tax director job in New York?
Tax director roles in New York are concentrated in financial services, investment management, and large professional services firms clustered in Midtown and the Financial District. Candidates with a CPA and deep experience in partnership taxation, international tax, or financial products structuring have an edge here. Networking through New York-based accounting associations and targeting Big Four alumni networks accelerates the process significantly.
Which companies hire tax directors in New York?
Employers hiring tax directors in New York right now include Alvarez & Marsal, BDO, and EY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's market is especially deep in global banks, hedge funds, private equity firms, and multinational corporations that maintain their tax functions in the city.
Are there remote tax director jobs in New York?
Yes, though remote availability is limited at the director level since the role often requires close collaboration with legal, finance, and executive leadership. About 19% of tax director openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Financial services and corporate tax roles in New York are more likely to offer hybrid arrangements than fully on-site positions at smaller firms.
How can I get a tax director job in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic path in New York is progressing through a Big Four or regional accounting firm based in Midtown or the Financial District, moving from senior tax manager into a director role over several years. New York's density of financial services companies also means that lateral moves from a senior tax role at a bank or investment firm can open director-level opportunities faster than in most other markets.

Most tax director openings in New York sit in Consulting & Professional Services, Accounting & Auditing, and Technology & Software, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global financial institutions, private equity sponsors, and multinational corporate headquarters drives sustained demand for senior tax leadership across those sectors.
