Private Client Advisor Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a private client advisor in New York?
Most private client advisors in New York begin with a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or business, then obtain FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 licenses, which are required to provide investment advice and transact securities in New York. Licensing is administered through FINRA, and candidates register through their sponsoring employer. Many advisors pursuing senior roles also earn a CFP or CFA designation to strengthen their credibility with high-net-worth clients in this market.
How much do private client advisors make in New York?
Private client advisors in New York earn a median of about $166,400 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,190 for the lowest 10% to over $427,700 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire private client advisors in New York?
Employers hiring private client advisors in New York right now include JPMorganChase, KeyBank, and Bank of America, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global bank headquarters, independent wealth managers, and family offices makes it one of the deepest hiring markets in the country for this role.
Which New York cities have the most private client advisor jobs?
The most private client advisor openings in New York are concentrated in Brooklyn, New York, and Queens. New York City dominates because it is home to the global headquarters of major private banks and wealth management firms, while suburban markets like White Plains and Garden City serve affluent commuter communities whose residents often prefer working with advisors closer to home.
Are there remote private client advisor jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're relatively limited, since private client advising is a relationship-driven role that most employers prefer to keep in-person or hybrid. About 19% of private client advisor openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with fully remote arrangements more common for analytical support roles than for client-facing advisory positions.
How can I get hired as a private client advisor in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a large New York wealth management firm as a client associate or financial advisor trainee, roles that firms like Morgan Stanley, UBS, and JPMorgan Private Bank run specifically for candidates building toward advisory careers. Obtaining your Series 7 and Series 66 licenses before applying gives you a clear edge, and lateral moves from banking relationship management or financial planning support roles are common ways to transition into a private client advisory track.
Where can I find and apply to private client advisor jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to private client advisor jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience and credentials, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
