Tax Intern Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax intern in Kentucky?
Most Kentucky employers hire tax interns who are actively pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting at an accredited institution, with coursework in federal taxation completed or in progress. Kentucky does not require a state license to work as a tax intern, but candidates aiming toward CPA licensure should track the Kentucky Board of Accountancy's education requirements early, since the 150-credit-hour threshold shapes how programs are structured and which internships count toward experience.
Which companies hire tax interns in Kentucky?
Companies currently hiring tax interns in Kentucky include Dean Dorton, Crowe, and RUDLER PSC, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Kentucky's mix of regional CPA firms headquartered in Louisville and Lexington alongside large corporate employers in retail, healthcare, and manufacturing means openings appear across both public accounting and in-house tax departments.
Which Kentucky cities have the most tax intern jobs?
Lexington, Louisville, and Fort Wright hold the most tax intern openings in Kentucky. Louisville leads as the state's largest business hub, home to major corporate headquarters and the regional offices of national accounting firms, while Lexington's university presence and healthcare sector drive consistent demand, and Covington benefits from its position within the broader Cincinnati metro where firms serve clients across the state line.
Are there remote tax intern jobs in Kentucky?
Yes, and more than many entry-level roles, since much of tax work involves reviewing documents and preparing returns that can be done digitally. About 100% of tax intern openings tied to Kentucky are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting a broader shift in how accounting firms structure their intern programs. Individual and corporate return preparation tends to be the most remote-friendly portion of the work.
How can I get hired as a tax intern in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to the structured campus recruiting programs that regional firms like Dean Dorton and BKD run at the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville each fall. These programs are designed for candidates with no prior tax experience and select primarily on GPA, coursework completion, and communication skills. Volunteer Tax Assistance program participation, available through Kentucky community organizations, also provides verifiable tax preparation experience that resonates with hiring managers at both firms and in-house corporate tax teams.
Where can I find and apply to tax intern jobs in Kentucky?
You can find and apply to tax intern jobs in Kentucky on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Louisville, Lexington, Covington, and other Kentucky markets. Search the listings to find roles that match your availability, practice area interest, and program timeline, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
