Tax Intern Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax intern in New Jersey?
The most direct path is enrolling in an accounting, finance, or taxation degree program at a New Jersey university and applying to intern programs in your second or third year. New Jersey does not require a license to work as a tax intern, but firms strongly prefer candidates progressing toward CPA eligibility under the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy, which requires completing the required credit hours before sitting for the Uniform CPA Examination.
Which companies hire tax interns in New Jersey?
Companies currently hiring tax interns in New Jersey include PKF O'Connor Davies and RSM, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and Big Four accounting offices in the Newark and Princeton corridors makes it one of the more active states for structured tax internship programs.
Which New Jersey cities have the most tax intern jobs?
Edison, Cranford, and Voorhees hold the most tax intern openings in New Jersey. Newark anchors the market as the state's largest city and a hub for Big Four offices and financial services firms, while Princeton and Parsippany draw volume from the pharmaceutical and corporate headquarters concentrated in central and Morris County, which run year-round tax departments that regularly take on interns.
How can I get hired as a tax intern in New Jersey with little or no experience?
Applying to Big Four and regional firm internship programs through your university's accounting department is the most realistic entry point, since firms like Deloitte and KPMG in Newark recruit directly from Rutgers, Seton Hall, and Montclair State. Completing a tax-focused accounting course and earning QuickBooks or Excel certification gives candidates a practical edge. Adjacent roles like bookkeeping assistant or accounts payable clerk at New Jersey firms also serve as lateral entry points into tax internship tracks.

You can find and apply to tax intern jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now.
