Tax Professional Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax professional in Florida?
The most direct path in Florida is earning a CPA license through the Florida Board of Accountancy, which requires a bachelor's degree with qualifying accounting and business credit hours, passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam, and completing a supervised work experience requirement. Candidates who want to prepare returns without a CPA may also qualify as an IRS Enrolled Agent, a credential widely accepted by Florida employers and public accounting firms.
How much do tax professionals make in Florida?
Tax professionals in Florida earn a median of about $49,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,380 for the lowest 10% to over $94,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax professionals in Florida?
Employers hiring tax professionals in Florida right now include H&R Block, SFS Tax & Accounting Services, and Prestigious Financial Solutions, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Florida's large concentration of regional accounting firms, financial services companies, and multinationals headquartered in Miami and Tampa makes it one of the more active states for ongoing tax professional recruitment.
Which Florida cities have the most tax professional jobs?
Stuart, Kissimmee, and Lutz have the highest concentration of tax professional openings in Florida. Miami leads due to its dense cluster of international businesses, private equity firms, and high-net-worth advisory practices, while Tampa and Orlando generate steady demand through regional headquarters, large public accounting offices, and growing technology and healthcare sectors that all require dedicated tax teams.
Are there remote tax professional jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than most fields. Tax work is largely desk-based and document-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 50% of tax professional openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly firms have adopted flexible models since the shift to digital filing. Tax research, compliance review, and return preparation are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a tax professional in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an associate or staff tax accountant role at a regional or national public accounting firm with Florida offices, many of which run structured new-graduate programs designed for candidates without prior professional experience. Large Florida employers such as hospital systems and corporate headquarters also hire tax analysts from adjacent finance roles like accounts payable, bookkeeping, or audit. Completing an IRS Enrolled Agent credential or passing the first section of the CPA Exam gives entry-level candidates a measurable edge in competitive Florida markets.
