Tax Professional Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax professional in Georgia?
The most common path is earning a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, then sitting for the CPA exam administered through the Georgia State Board of Accountancy, which oversees licensure in the state. Many employers also accept enrolled agent status granted by the IRS for tax-specific roles. Entry-level candidates often start at public accounting firms or in-house corporate tax departments while completing their required credit hours and experience.
How much do tax professionals make in Georgia?
Tax professionals in Georgia earn a median of about $49,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,780 for the lowest 10% to over $97,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax professionals in Georgia?
Employers hiring tax professionals in Georgia right now include H&R Block, LTS Financial, and Bank of America, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Georgia's large corporate headquarters presence, particularly in metro Atlanta's technology, logistics, and financial services sectors, drives consistent year-round demand across both public accounting firms and in-house tax teams.
Which Georgia cities have the most tax professional jobs?
Atlanta, Columbus, and Lithonia have the most tax professional openings in Georgia. Atlanta dominates due to its concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, the Big Four accounting firms, and regional financial services companies, while Savannah and Augusta generate demand through manufacturing, healthcare systems, and growing corporate back-office operations that maintain dedicated tax functions.
Are there remote tax professional jobs in Georgia?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of tax professional openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting how well tax compliance and advisory work translates to distributed teams. Roles focused on corporate income tax compliance, tax research, and tax technology implementation tend to be the most remote-friendly, while client-facing advisory and audit-adjacent positions more often require in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a tax professional in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a tax associate or seasonal tax preparer role at a regional CPA firm or a national firm with Atlanta-area offices, where structured onboarding replaces prior experience. Large Georgia employers like NCR Voyix and Delta Air Lines also run finance rotational programs that include tax exposure. Earning your CPA exam eligibility or enrolled agent credential while in an entry role signals commitment and separates candidates with no prior tax history from the field.
Where can I find and apply to tax professional jobs in Georgia?
You can find and apply to tax professional jobs in Georgia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Georgia openings across Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, and surrounding areas. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to each one.
