The new Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology at the University of Minnesota is central to the mission of both the Medical School and the broader University. The department stands on the shoulders of legends, most notably Professor Maurice Visscher, who, more than 50 years ago, had the vision to reach across disciplines in the quest for discovery. This was a massive leap forward at a time when most everyone built departments as silos, rarely daring to seek cross-disciplinary interactions. Visscher's efforts helped launch a remarkable period of biomedical growth and discovery, particularly in cardiovascular biology and disease, where landmark breakthroughs in portable cardiac defibrillators and open-heart repair were envisioned and brought to fruition.
In this spirit, the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology emerges. Our research centers on the integrative systems biology of the heart and vasculature, including the close linkages among cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, and metabolism at the whole-animal level. The department is ideally positioned to bridge basic science discoveries to clinically relevant applications, spanning from academia to our neighbors in the biomedical industry. The spotlight is on Minnesota as a rising star in cardiovascular research, and we warmly welcome new faculty and students who embrace this vision.
We are a dynamic and growing medical school basic science department that values excellence, innovation, inclusive meritocracy, and impact as the cornerstones of biomedical research and education. We aspire to be the leading research and education physiology program in the country.
Our research vision focuses on mechanistic studies of the cardiovascular system—including muscle biology—as well as obesity, diabetes, and metabolism. We hold thematic interests in sterile inflammation and AI/ML-based computational biology. We expressly integrate new knowledge discoveries from genes and molecules to the whole organism, with direct relevance to human health.

Entry Level Teaching Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level teaching job?
Start by completing a student-teaching placement or volunteer tutoring experience that shows you can manage a classroom and deliver a lesson plan. Employers hiring at the entry level look for a state teaching license or active pursuit of one, a content-area degree in the subject you want to teach, and evidence that you can connect with students. A strong letter of recommendation from a cooperating teacher or university supervisor can set your application apart.
Which companies hire entry level teachings?
Companies hiring entry level teachings right now include Brigham Young University, Florida International University, and Rutgers University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring comes from public school districts, charter school networks, private and parochial schools, and tutoring or test-prep companies that regularly bring on new graduates and candidates making a first move into the classroom.
Are there remote entry level teaching jobs?
Yes, though most entry level teaching roles are still on-site. About 5% of entry level teaching openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in online tutoring platforms, virtual charter schools, and curriculum-development roles that do not require a physical classroom. On-site positions remain the most common path for new grads building foundational classroom experience.
Are these new grad teaching jobs?
Yes, the listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior teaching roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts a student-teaching practicum or tutoring internship toward the requirement, or accepts a portfolio of lesson plans and classroom observations in place of a long work history. Look for language like "entry level," "new graduates welcome," or "will train" in the job description.
Which industries hire the most entry level teachings?
Entry level teaching roles concentrate in Education, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Science & Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they have consistent student enrollment growth, ongoing demand for licensed subject-matter teachers, and structured onboarding programs designed to develop candidates who are early in their teaching careers.
