Overview
Liquibase is the leader in Database DevOps. Downloaded more than 100 million times, our software enables DevOps teams around the globe to accelerate the software delivery process by automating database updates, security, and governance. We are a nimble, fast-paced, innovative team with the opportunity to make an outsized impact on the business and the industry.
We're looking for a Director to lead our end-to-end technical customer engagement strategy, spanning both pre-sales (Sales Engineers who support the sales cycle with demos, technical discovery, and proof-of-concepts) and post-sales (Technical Advisors who drive implementation, adoption, and ongoing technical value realization). This is a unique opportunity to build and lead a unified technical organization that owns the customer's technical experience from first demo through years of production use.
You'll bridge Sales and Customer Success ensuring customers get consistent, high-quality technical guidance at every stage, and that the lessons learned post-sale continuously sharpen how we sell and demo pre-sale.
Who you are:
- You surprise and delight customers by delivering meaningful value, consistently going beyond what's expected.
- You're committed to excellence, holding high standards while embracing progress over perfection.
- You bring a growth mindset and the courage to have difficult conversations when they matter.
- You embrace change and uncertainty with energy and optimism, creating clarity where it doesn't yet exist.
- You take ownership and follow through, proactively identifying what needs to happen and reliably seeing it through.
- You are innovative. You see every challenge as an opportunity. You would rather create the future than wait for it.
What you'll be doing:
- Hire, coach, and develop Sales Engineers (pre-sales) and Technical Advisors (post-sales), building a single technical talent bench that can flex across the customer lifecycle
- Set clear goals, career paths, and technical enablement plans for both disciplines
- Establish team KPIs across both functions: win rates and POC-to-close conversion (pre-sales), and time-to-value, adoption, and technical health scores (post-sales)
- Own the technical sales motion: discovery, solution architecture, demos, and proof-of-concept execution for prospective customers
- Ensure Sales Engineers can clearly translate Liquibase's technical capabilities into business value for prospects across a range of database and DevOps environments
- Partner with Sales leadership to drive higher win rates and shorten sales cycles through strong technical leadership
- Own the technical onboarding, implementation, and adoption journey for new and existing customers
- Partner with Customer Success leadership to identify and resolve technical adoption blockers that put renewals or expansion at risk
- Partner with Product and Engineering to represent the voice of the technical customer in roadmap discussions, and to escalate and track product gaps surfaced during sales cycles or implementations
- Build reusable technical assets: demo environments, POC frameworks, reference architectures, and implementation playbooks
- Report on technical team performance, deal support impact, and adoption outcomes to executive leadership
Must Haves:
- 7+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Technical Account Management, or Professional Services in B2B SaaS or enterprise software, with at least 3+ years leading technical teams
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
- Experience leading pre-sales is required
- Background of selling to Engineering Leadership in large enterprises
- Deep technical fluency in DevOps, CI/CD, database management, or infrastructure tooling
- Proven ability to build scalable technical processes: POC frameworks, implementation playbooks, and demo environments
- Strong executive presence, comfortable engaging technical and business stakeholders on the customer side as well as internal leadership
- A collaborative, cross-functional mindset — this role only works if Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering all trust this leader's team
Nice to Haves:
- Direct database/DevOps tooling experience is a strong plus
Perks of life at Liquibase:
- Remote First culture, potential for company-wide in-person gatherings
- Home office allowance for remote workers
- Meaningful equity
- Comprehensive health, vision, and dental benefits - country dependent
- Generous paid time off and paid holidays
- 401k match program (US only)
- No punks, no jerks culture
- Growth opportunities and ability to move up within the company
We take pride in:
- A transparent and collaborative team environment. We value multiple perspectives and fresh thinking.
- Our entrepreneurial culture. We provide every employee the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
- Providing the opportunity to work with new technologies and learn from experienced professionals.
- How organizations, large and small, use DevOps to drive developer agility and accelerate software delivery.

Tips for Your Technical Pre Sales Job Search
Quantify your wins in demo outcomes
Hiring managers want proof you moved deals forward. Replace vague resume bullets with specifics: how many POCs you ran, which technical objections you resolved, and whether your work advanced deals to contract stage. Results tied to pipeline carry more weight than feature explanations.
Match your stack to each job description
Technical pre sales roles are often scoped to a specific platform ecosystem. Before applying, audit which products the employer sells and make sure your resume surfaces direct experience with those tools, even if that means creating a role-specific skills section for each application.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists technical pre sales openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a discovery-call walkthrough story
Interviewers frequently ask you to demonstrate how you qualify a prospect before diving into a demo. Rehearse a concise story covering how you uncovered pain, confirmed technical fit, and shaped the evaluation criteria so the outcome favored your solution.
Clarify your territory and quota split
Before accepting an offer, ask explicitly how quota is shared between you and the account executive, which accounts you own versus support, and how travel expectations are calculated. These details determine your actual workload and earning structure more than the title does.
Build a demo environment you can show
Many hiring panels ask final-round candidates to present a live or recorded product walkthrough for a fictional prospect. Having a polished, self-hosted demo environment ready shortens your prep time and signals you already work the way the job requires.
Technical Pre Sales Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most technical pre saless?
The companies hiring the most technical pre saless right now include Jolly Technologies, AMD, and Google, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Utah, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Activity shifts frequently as vendor sales cycles ramp up, so checking current listings is the most reliable way to find where demand is concentrated.
How many technical pre sales jobs are remote?
About 100% of technical pre sales openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the role can run over video for discovery calls and demos. Solutions engineering and cloud-focused roles tend to carry the highest remote availability, while hardware and on-site integration roles more often require in-person presence.
How do you become a technical pre sales?
Most people enter technical pre sales by moving from a technical support, solutions engineering, or software development role into a customer-facing position. You build the foundation by developing deep product knowledge, practicing structured discovery conversations, and learning to translate complex functionality into business value. Volunteering to shadow sales calls or join demo prep in your current role accelerates the transition considerably.
Can you get a technical pre sales job with little experience?
Yes, associate and junior solutions engineer roles are specifically designed for candidates early in their careers who have strong technical foundations but limited sales exposure. Employers at this level prioritize hands-on proficiency with relevant platforms, clear communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences over prior quota-carrying experience.
What does the technical pre sales interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen, followed by a hiring manager call focused on your technical background and deal experience. Later rounds usually include a panel interview with sales leadership and a mock demo or presentation exercise where you walk through a product for a fictional prospect. Final-stage conversations often involve the regional sales director or a senior solutions architect.
