Technical Sales Engineer Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a technical sales engineer job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's industrial automation, B2B software, and manufacturing technology sectors, where demand for technical sales engineers is strongest. The Loop and Fulton Market corridor host the highest concentration of relevant employers. Candidates with a background in mechanical or electrical engineering paired with client-facing experience stand out here. Attending local industry events and targeting Chicago-area distributors and OEM partners also sharpens your edge.
Which companies hire technical sales engineers in Chicago?
Employers hiring technical sales engineers in Chicago right now include Okta, Adyen, and Cyera, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's market draws a mix of global industrial manufacturers, regional technology distributors, and fast-growing B2B software firms, many headquartered downtown or in the western suburbs.
Are there remote technical sales engineer jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for this role since client visits, product demonstrations, and on-site technical support are core to the work. About 32% of technical sales engineer openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those arrangements tend to cover inside sales or software-focused accounts rather than field-heavy industrial roles.
How can I get a technical sales engineer job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through an inside sales engineer or sales development role at one of the city's industrial equipment distributors or automation integrators, many of which hire junior candidates and provide structured product training. Entry-level roles at firms in the Chicago suburbs, particularly along the I-88 tech corridor, also open doors. A degree in engineering combined with any internship or co-op involving customer contact gives you a competitive edge.
Which industries hire the most technical sales engineers in Chicago?
The sectors hiring the most technical sales engineers in Chicago are Technology & Software, Fintech, and Banking & Financial Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's role as a hub for industrial manufacturing, enterprise technology, and healthcare device companies creates consistent, year-round demand for engineers who can bridge the gap between complex products and commercial buyers.
