Technical Sales Specialist Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a technical sales specialist job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's Loop and River North office corridors, where manufacturing tech, life sciences, and B2B software employers cluster most densely. Candidates who combine a technical background with documented quota attainment stand out in this market. Familiarity with Chicago's industrial base, particularly around distribution, automation, and medtech, gives you a concrete edge over generalist sales applicants when targeting local employers.
Which companies hire technical sales specialists in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring technical sales specialists in Chicago include IMEC Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center, HDR, and Braze, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's hiring mix skews toward established mid-market and enterprise firms in manufacturing technology, healthcare equipment, and enterprise software, alongside a growing number of B2B SaaS companies headquartered downtown.
Are there remote technical sales specialist jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though technical sales specialist roles are less remote-friendly than purely desk-based positions because client demos, site visits, and relationship-building often require in-person presence. About 62% of technical sales specialist openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common for inside sales and pre-sales engineering functions tied to Chicago-headquartered software and analytics firms.
How can I get a technical sales specialist job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is starting as a sales development representative or junior account representative at one of the city's many B2B software or industrial distribution companies, where formal sales training programs are common. Chicago employers in manufacturing technology and medtech also hire candidates from engineering or science backgrounds for junior technical roles, using product knowledge as a bridge into quota-carrying positions over time.
Which industries hire the most technical sales specialists in Chicago?
Most technical sales specialist openings in Chicago sit in Technology & Software, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's position as a major logistics, manufacturing, and healthcare hub means these sectors generate consistent demand for specialists who can translate complex product capabilities into business value for enterprise buyers.
