Position summary

The Technology Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing assigned Information Technology projects through the full project lifecycle, including definition, planning, approval, execution, implementation, and evaluation. This role exercises independent judgment and discretion in managing project scope, timelines, resources, risks, dependencies, stakeholder communications, and delivery outcomes.

The role partners with IT leadership, technical teams, functional business units, project sponsors, stakeholders, and external resources to analyze business needs, define business and technical requirements, and translate those requirements into actionable project plans and deliverables. Addionally, the role manages technology projects across IT domains, including cloud, infrastructure, network, information security, enterprise applications, and custom development, ensuring project delivery aligns with business objectives, technical requirements, security standards, and operational needs.

Job duties and responsibilities

• Lead and manage assigned projects through definition, planning, approval, execution, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation, exercising independent judgment and discretion to adapt project plans, resolve project issues, and drive successful outcomes.
• Develop, maintain, and oversee project plans, schedules, scope, milestones, budgets, resource allocations, dependencies, governance materials, and project documentation to ensure project phases are completed on time, within scope, and in accordance with quality standards.
• Manage technology projects across IT domains, including cloud, infrastructure, network, information security, enterprise applications, and custom development, ensuring project delivery aligns with business objectives, technical requirements, enterprise architecture, security standards, and operational needs.
• Manage cloud implementation, migration, and optimization projects, including SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS solutions, new technology implementations, and migrations of existing systems.
• Partner with IT leadership, technical teams, functional business units, project sponsors, and stakeholders to analyze business needs, define and refine business and technical requirements, and translate requirements into actionable project plans and deliverables.
• Develop and maintain project documentation, including business analysis, specifications, test plans, test scripts, status reports, decision logs, stakeholder communications, approvals, and related project artifacts.
• Identify, evaluate, and manage project risks, issues, interdependencies, resource gaps, mitigation plans, change requests, and roadblocks throughout the project lifecycle, escalating concerns and driving resolution as appropriate.
• Oversee work performed by vendors, contractors, consultants, internal technical resources, and matrixed project teams to ensure deliverables meet project goals, business needs, contractual obligations, and agreed timelines.
• Lead project meetings, working sessions, sponsor updates, stakeholder communications, and senior staff briefings to manage expectations, communicate project status, obtain decisions and approvals, and drive next steps.
• Establish, track, analyze, and report project success metrics, milestones, budget and resource needs, delivery progress, risks, issues, and dependencies, providing recommendations to project sponsors, stakeholders, and senior staff as appropriate.
• Lead project testing and implementation readiness activities, including test planning, quality control, rollout planning, deployment coordination, training documentation, post-implementation monitoring, and lessons learned.
• Lead the IT technical review process for new system onboarding initiatives, working with technical stakeholders and the Vendor Management Office (VMO) to evaluate solution readiness, assess risks, ensure compliance with enterprise standards, and support successful vendor and application onboarding.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related technical or business field required. PMP or comparable project management certification preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 6 years of project management experience, including experience managing IT, technology, systems implementation, infrastructure, software, enterprise application, or related technology projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing technology implementation, migration, optimization, or integration projects across one or more IT domains, such as cloud, SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, network, information security, enterprise applications, or custom development.
• Experience managing project timelines, risks, resources, priorities, and cross-functional technical and business project teams required.
• Experience working in a law firm, professional services, or similarly complex and highly matrixed business environment preferred.

Skills:

• Proficiency with project management, documentation, reporting, and collaboration tools, including Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Power BI, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
• Skilled in translating business needs into clear business and technical requirements, project documentation, and stakeholder communications.
• Effective communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence others, negotiate priorities, and manage expectations across cross-functional and matrixed teams.
• Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills in a project-based environment.
• Sound judgment in evaluating project risks, dependencies, competing priorities, and issues.
• Project organization and follow-through, including the ability to manage deadlines, documentation, decisions, and next steps across multiple projects.
• Flexible and adaptable in response to changing business needs, project scope, priorities, and timelines.
• Ability to work independently and remain productive, responsive, and accountable in a remote or hybrid environment.

• Ability to work in the office as required to meet business or project needs.

Working conditions

You will be required to work in the office at minimum 4 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor.

Pay ranges

This represents the presently anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith's pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

Pittsburgh: $123,000 - $140,000
