Therapist Jobs in San Jose: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a therapist job in San Jose?
The strongest hiring comes from San Jose's federally qualified health centers, county behavioral health programs, and the growing network of outpatient group practices serving Silicon Valley's workforce. Candidates who hold a California clinical license and have experience with dual-diagnosis, trauma, or bilingual caseloads stand out in this market. Targeting employers in the Alum Rock and East San Jose corridors, where community mental health need is highest, opens additional entry points.
Which companies hire therapists in San Jose?
San Jose therapist roles are posted by HiredFirst, Skyline Healthcare Center-San Jose, and Almaden Health and Rehabilitation Center and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local employer mix includes large health systems with outpatient behavioral health units, county-contracted nonprofits, and private group practices catering to tech-industry employees and their families.
Are there remote therapist jobs in San Jose?
Yes, though therapy is largely a direct-care role that limits full remote work to telehealth-only practices. About 19% of therapist openings tied to San Jose are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the telehealth platforms and EAP providers that operate without a fixed clinic. Individual and family therapy sessions delivered via telehealth make up most of the remote volume in the local market.
How can I get a therapist job in San Jose with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Jose is an associate-level or intern therapist role at one of the county's community mental health contractors, where supervised hours count toward licensure. Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services and its nonprofit partners regularly bring on associate marriage and family therapists and associate clinical social workers. School-based counseling positions through San Jose Unified and East Side Union high school districts are another concrete opening for candidates building their supervised hours.
Which industries hire the most therapists in San Jose?
The sectors hiring the most therapists in San Jose are Healthcare & Medical Services, Consulting & Professional Services, and Insurance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. San Jose's concentration of large tech employers drives strong demand for employee assistance and occupational mental health services alongside the city's established hospital and community health infrastructure.
