Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Adjunct Instructor
Match your credentials to the course discipline
TN approval for Adjunct Instructors requires that your degree field aligns with the courses you'll teach. A philosophy degree won't support a chemistry section. Gather transcripts and credential evaluations before applying to specific postings.
Target institutions with existing TN hiring experience
Community colleges and regional universities that already employ international faculty understand TN documentation requirements. Departments of human resources at these schools can process your offer letter with the correct language USCIS expects.
Request a qualifying offer letter from your employer
Your offer letter must name the courses or subject area, confirm the academic term length, and state that the position requires a degree in the field. An adjunct contract alone rarely meets TN documentation standards without this specificity.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-sponsored Adjunct Instructor roles
Searching broadly misses institutions already set up for TN sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters adjunct postings by TN visa eligibility so you apply only where sponsorship is realistic for Canadian and Mexican applicants.
Understand how part-time contracts affect TN status
TN status is tied to the position described in your petition. If your institution reduces your course load mid-semester or moves you to a different department, notify your school's international office promptly, as a material change may require an updated filing.
Prepare for port-of-entry processing as a Canadian
Canadian citizens can apply for TN status directly at a U.S. land border or preclearance airport without a prior visa appointment. Bring your offer letter, transcripts, and citizenship proof. CBP officers adjudicate TN petitions on the spot, often within the same day.

Find Adjunct Instructor JobsAdjunct Instructor TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Adjunct Instructor role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, provided the position fits the USMCA's 'College, University, or Seminary Teacher' category. The role must involve teaching at the post-secondary level, and your degree must correspond to the subject you're hired to instruct. Part-time and semester-based adjunct contracts can qualify, but the offer letter must clearly describe the teaching duties and academic credentials required.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for Adjunct Instructor positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no multi-month wait for approval. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with limited annual slots and a registration window each spring. For adjunct roles, which often start on short notice before an academic term, TN's same-day processing at the border or quick USCIS adjudication gives you a significant timing advantage over H-1B.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN petition?
Your sponsoring institution must provide a signed offer letter that specifies the subject matter you'll teach, the term or employment period, confirmation that a degree in the relevant field is required, and your job title. Some schools include a brief description of duties. Without all these elements, CBP or USCIS may request additional evidence or deny the petition outright.
Where can I find Adjunct Instructor jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job postings don't specify TN visa eligibility, which means you spend time applying to institutions unprepared to sponsor. Migrate Mate filters roles specifically for TN-eligible positions, helping Canadian and Mexican professionals find adjunct openings at schools already familiar with the USMCA teacher category and its documentation requirements.
Can Mexican citizens use the TN visa for Adjunct Instructor roles the same way Canadians can?
Mexican citizens qualify for TN status under the same USMCA occupational categories, but the process differs. Mexicans must apply for a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than seeking admission directly at the border. The academic credential and offer letter requirements are identical, but you'll need to schedule a consular appointment and allow additional processing time before starting work.
