Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Aprn
Verify your APRN credentials meet TN standards
TN visa classification requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in nursing, plus your APRN licensure. State-issued nurse practitioner or CNS licenses are not automatically sufficient without the underlying RN degree documentation ready for CBP review.
Target health systems with recent visa sponsorship experience
Large academic medical centers and hospital networks in border states regularly sponsor APRN TN visas. Search for employers with recent visa filings to identify organizations experienced with work visa sponsorship for clinical roles. These employers demonstrate familiarity with the visa sponsorship process and may be open to supporting qualified APRN candidates.
Clarify specialty title alignment before accepting an offer
CBP officers match your job title against the USMCA nurse category. Titles like 'advanced practice provider' or 'mid-level clinician' create unnecessary friction; insist the offer letter uses 'nurse practitioner,' 'certified nurse midwife,' or 'clinical nurse specialist' explicitly.
Get CGFNS credential verification completed early
Mexican APRN applicants applying at a U.S. consulate often need Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) verification of their nursing degree equivalency. This process takes weeks, so initiate it before you have a job offer in hand.
Use Migrate Mate to find APRN roles with TN sponsorship
Filtering for roles by visa type saves significant time. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for APRN positions where employers have confirmed TN sponsorship, so you're not cold-applying to organizations unfamiliar with the classification.
Prepare for port-of-entry review as a Canadian applicant
Canadian APRNs can obtain TN status directly at a land border or airport without a prior visa. Bring your signed offer letter, nursing degree transcripts, state APRN license, and RN license. CBP can request additional documentation on the spot, so carry originals, not copies.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Aprn TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the APRN role qualify for TN visa classification?
Yes. The USMCA lists 'registered nurse' as a qualifying TN occupation, and CBP has consistently accepted APRN roles including nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and clinical nurse specialists under this category. The key requirement is that you hold a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in nursing and a valid APRN license in the state where you'll practice.
How does TN compare to H-1B for APRN jobs in the United States?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no multi-month wait for Canadians who apply at a port of entry. H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship, a lottery selection in April, and a start date no earlier than October 1. For APRNs who are Canadian or Mexican citizens, TN is significantly faster and more predictable than competing in the H-1B lottery.
Can I search for APRN jobs that specifically offer TN visa sponsorship?
Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, which means you spend time applying to employers who aren't set up to sponsor TN visas. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this: you can search APRN roles where employers have already confirmed TN sponsorship, cutting out the guesswork about whether a given hospital or health system will support your visa classification.
What documentation does my employer need to provide for TN APRN processing?
Your employer must provide a signed offer letter that states your job title using a USMCA-recognized nursing designation, confirms full-time or part-time employment, describes your duties in clinical terms, and specifies the employment period. For Mexican citizens processed at a consulate, the employer may also need to provide supporting documentation about the facility and your anticipated scope of practice.
How long is a TN visa valid for APRN roles, and can it be renewed?
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals. Canadian APRNs renew at a port of entry or by filing with USCIS; Mexican APRNs renew through consular processing. As long as you maintain a valid employment relationship in a qualifying APRN role, you can renew indefinitely without re-entering a lottery or waiting for a priority date.
