TN Visa Respiratory Therapist Jobs
Respiratory Therapist is a designated TN visa occupation under USMCA, making it one of the more direct paths to U.S. employment for Canadian and Mexican professionals. Employers across hospital systems and pulmonary care centers regularly offer TN sponsorship, and the credential and licensure requirements align closely with what Canadian RTs already hold.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Respiratory Therapist
Verify your credentials meet U.S. licensing standards
Canadian RTs credentialed through the CSRT are generally recognized for TN purposes, but state respiratory care boards set their own licensure requirements. Confirm your specific state's requirements before accepting an offer, since your TN approval depends on meeting both federal occupation criteria and employer-documented role alignment.
Target hospital systems with dedicated HR immigration teams
Large hospital networks and multi-facility health systems process TN sponsorships regularly and typically have in-house HR staff who understand the paperwork. Smaller outpatient clinics may be willing but lack the infrastructure, which can slow your start date significantly.
Search for TN-sponsored Respiratory Therapist roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for TN-eligible roles, so you're not spending hours screening postings that won't support sponsorship. It's built for Canadian and Mexican professionals navigating USMCA-based hiring.
Ask employers about their TN filing method upfront
Canadian citizens can obtain TN status directly at a U.S. port of entry without pre-filing with USCIS. Confirm whether your prospective employer expects you to handle port-of-entry admission or whether they're filing a USCIS petition, since the documentation package and timeline differ.
Get your offer letter to include specific TN-required language
The offer letter is your primary TN document and must state your job title, duties, qualifications, and that the position is temporary in nature. A letter missing any of these elements can result in a CBP denial at the border even if the role genuinely qualifies.
Anticipate credential verification delays for Mexican professionals
Mexican RT professionals applying for TN status must go through consular processing rather than port-of-entry admission. Build extra time into your start date negotiation to account for visa appointment wait times at U.S. consulates in Mexico.

Find Respiratory Therapist JobsRespiratory Therapist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Respiratory Therapist qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Respiratory Therapist is explicitly listed as a qualifying occupation under the USMCA TN visa category. To qualify, you must hold a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree, or meet the alternative credential requirements recognized for the occupation. Your employer's offer letter must describe duties that match the TN occupation definition.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Respiratory Therapists?
TN is generally faster and more predictable for Respiratory Therapists than H-1B. There's no annual lottery for Canadians, no cap waiting period, and Canadian citizens can receive TN status at a U.S. port of entry the same day they present their documents. H-1B requires an annual lottery, a petitioning employer, and months of USCIS processing time. The trade-off is that TN doesn't carry dual intent, so long-term permanent residency planning requires separate strategy.
Where can I find Respiratory Therapist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals searching for TN-eligible roles in the U.S. It filters listings by TN visa eligibility, so you can focus on employers who already understand USMCA-based sponsorship rather than cold-pitching employers who may not be familiar with the process.
Can a Mexican Respiratory Therapist get TN status at the border like a Canadian applicant?
No. Mexican nationals must apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate in Mexico and cannot use the port-of-entry admission process available to Canadians. You'll need to schedule a consular interview, submit your supporting documents, and wait for visa issuance before traveling to begin work. Consular appointment availability varies and should factor into your start date planning.
What documents does a Respiratory Therapist need for a TN visa application?
You'll need a detailed employer offer letter, proof of Canadian or Mexican citizenship, and evidence of your professional credentials, which typically means your RT certification and any relevant degree documentation. If your credential is from a Canadian institution, a diploma or credential evaluation confirming equivalency to the U.S. standard may strengthen your application. Mexican applicants submit these to the U.S. consulate; Canadian applicants present them to a CBP officer at the port of entry.
