TN Visa Clinical Psychiatrist Jobs
Clinical Psychiatrist roles qualify for TN visa sponsorship under the USMCA treaty's physician and surgeon category, giving Canadian and Mexican psychiatrists a cap-free path to U.S. employment. Your employer doesn't file a petition with USCIS, so there's no lottery wait. Board certification and a valid medical license are the credentials that carry your application.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Psychiatrist
Verify your credentials meet TN requirements
TN approval for Clinical Psychiatrists requires proof of a medical degree and completed residency training in psychiatry. Canadian FRCPC certification and Mexican board credentials both qualify, but have your credential documents translated and notarized before outreach.
Target health systems with existing TN hiring
Large hospital networks and academic medical centers sponsor TN psychiatrists more routinely than private practices. Look for postings that list USMCA or TN visa eligibility explicitly, which signals an HR team already familiar with the process.
Secure a state medical license before your offer
Most U.S. states require a full medical license before you can start practicing, not just an offer letter. Begin the licensing application in your target state early. Processing can take three to six months and will delay your start date if left too late.
Clarify the support letter scope with your employer
Your employer's TN support letter must describe your duties as specifically psychiatric, not general medicine or internal medicine. A vague letter is the most common reason CBP asks follow-up questions at the port of entry for physician categories.
Use Migrate Mate to find psychiatrist roles with TN sponsorship
Search Migrate Mate to filter Clinical Psychiatrist openings by TN visa sponsorship directly. It removes the manual work of screening which employers understand USMCA requirements for physician roles.
Prepare for Canadian and Mexican entry differences
Canadian citizens apply at the port of entry without a visa stamp. Mexican citizens must obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate before entry. If you're Mexican, schedule your consular appointment immediately after receiving your offer and support letter.

Find Clinical Psychiatrist JobsClinical Psychiatrist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Clinical Psychiatrist qualify for the TN visa?
Yes. Psychiatry falls under the physician and surgeon category in the USMCA TN occupations list. You need a medical degree, completed residency training in psychiatry, and an offer of employment from a U.S. employer. Canadian citizens apply directly at the port of entry, while Mexican citizens must obtain a TN visa at a U.S. consulate first.
How does TN visa sponsorship for psychiatrists compare to the H-1B?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so your employer can sponsor you at any time of year. The H-1B has an 85,000-slot cap with a competitive lottery, meaning a qualified psychiatrist could wait years before selection. For Canadian and Mexican psychiatrists, TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. practice than H-1B.
What documents does a Clinical Psychiatrist need for TN approval?
You'll need your medical degree, proof of residency completion in psychiatry, a valid medical license from a U.S. state, an employer support letter specifically describing psychiatric duties, and a valid Canadian or Mexican passport. Mexican applicants also need to schedule a consular appointment to receive a TN visa stamp before traveling to the U.S.
Where can I find Clinical Psychiatrist jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Clinical Psychiatrist roles filtered specifically by TN visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing employers who understand USMCA requirements for physician roles. This is more efficient than screening general job listings where sponsorship support is often ambiguous or listed only as H-1B eligibility.
Can a Clinical Psychiatrist on TN status change employers?
Yes, but the TN status is tied to a specific employer and job offer. If you change employers, your new employer must provide a fresh support letter describing your psychiatric duties, and you'll need to either re-enter at a port of entry with new documentation or file a change of employer with USCIS. Don't start work with the new employer before your updated TN authorization is in place.
