Work with experienced engineers to perform engineering calculations, design checks, and basic analysis to support product performance, durability, safety, and reliability.
-
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, and product teams to help ensure designs meet functional, quality, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability requirements.
-
Participate in design reviews, capture feedback, and help refine designs as they move from concept through validation and production release.
-
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, design notes, specifications, test support information, and engineering reports.

Preferred Qualifications
Interest or experience with agricultural, off-highway, construction, automotive, or heavy equipment systems.
Exposure to CAD tools, preferably PTC Creo, and product data management systems such as Teamcenter.
Familiarity with engine-related subsystems such as cooling, exhaust, air intake, fuel, or DEF systems.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Director Of Product Design
Align your portfolio to TN eligibility criteria
TN visa approval hinges on demonstrating that your Director of Product Design role requires a theoretical and practical application of a recognized field. Frame your portfolio around systems thinking, UX research methodology, and design engineering to reinforce specialty occupation standing.
Target employers with active design leadership teams
Companies already running multi-disciplinary product design organizations are likelier to understand TN sponsorship requirements and move quickly through the offer process. Look for organizations with dedicated design operations functions rather than early-stage teams hiring their first designer.
Request an offer letter that specifies your degree requirement
CBP officers assess TN eligibility at the point of entry, so your offer letter must explicitly state that a bachelor's degree in a qualifying field is required for the role. Vague language about design experience without a degree requirement creates unnecessary risk at the border.
Use Migrate Mate to surface sponsorship-ready employers
Searching broadly for product design director roles wastes time on employers unfamiliar with TN visa requirements. Migrate Mate filters opportunities by sponsorship history so you reach hiring managers already prepared to support your TN application.
Prepare credential equivalency documentation before applying
Mexican nationals with degrees from Mexican institutions and Canadians with three-year diplomas should obtain a credential evaluation confirming U.S. equivalency before interviews begin. Having this documentation ready prevents delays once an employer extends an offer.
Negotiate TN filing responsibilities before signing
Unlike H-1B visa, TN does not require USCIS petition approval, but your employer still prepares the support letter and documents. Confirm during the offer stage who drafts that letter and whether legal counsel will be involved, so your start date isn't delayed by internal confusion.
Director Of Product Design TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Product Design role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a field such as industrial design, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline. The role must involve specialized theoretical and practical application rather than general management. If the job description emphasizes strategic design leadership grounded in a recognized degree field, it typically qualifies under the Computer Systems Analyst or Engineer category.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for product design directors?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, meaning you can pursue roles and receive approval year-round without waiting for an October 1 start date. H-1B requires a lottery entry, a USCIS petition, and months of processing. For Canadian professionals, TN is substantially faster. Mexican nationals face a 5,500-person annual cap, so timing matters more if you hold Mexican citizenship.
Where can I find Director of Product Design jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters design leadership roles by employers with sponsorship history, saving you from applying to companies unfamiliar with TN requirements. Most general job boards don't distinguish between employers willing to support TN filings and those that won't, which leads to wasted applications and delayed timelines.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a signed support letter on company letterhead that details your job title, duties, required qualifications, the professional category under USMCA, your anticipated length of employment, and your compensation arrangement. Canadian citizens present this letter at the port of entry along with their credentials. Mexican nationals submit it as part of the consular visa application package.
Can I start working immediately after TN approval if I'm Canadian?
Yes. Canadian citizens who apply for TN status at a U.S. port of entry or pre-clearance location receive a decision the same day. If approved, your I-94 is issued and your employment authorization begins immediately. You don't need a visa stamp in your passport, making this one of the most direct paths to authorized work available to Canadian professionals in design leadership roles.
