Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a UX Research Intern
Align your degree to the role description
TN approval depends on a direct connection between your credential and the job duties. A psychology or human-computer interaction degree maps cleanly to UX research tasks; a general business degree often doesn't survive officer scrutiny without a detailed support letter.
Request a methodology-specific offer letter
Ask the employer to describe research methods in the offer letter, such as usability testing, interview protocols, and affinity mapping. Officers evaluate whether the role requires specialized knowledge, not just whether 'UX' appears in the title.
Target employers with structured internship programs
Companies running formal internship cohorts typically have HR teams experienced in employment authorization paperwork. Smaller studios may want to sponsor but lack the internal process to execute TN documentation correctly and on time.
Clarify your classification before filing
UX Research Intern roles can qualify under Social Science or Computer Systems Analyst depending on the work scope. Getting the USMCA category wrong is a common denial trigger. Use Migrate Mate to confirm the right classification before your employer submits any documents.
Plan for Mexican nationals' consular timeline
Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate, which adds scheduling lead time. Build at least six to eight weeks into your start-date negotiation to account for appointment availability and administrative processing at your consular post.
Confirm your start date covers CBP processing
Canadian citizens seeking TN status at a land border or airport port of entry can be approved the same day, but delays happen. Negotiate a start date with a few days of buffer so a long CBP queue doesn't put you in breach of your offer.

Find UX Research Intern JobsUX Research Intern TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a UX Research Intern role actually qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
It can, but the classification isn't automatic. UX Research Intern roles are most commonly filed under the Social Science or Computer Systems Analyst USMCA categories. The determining factor is whether the position requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field and involves work that matches the category's definition. A vague job title alone won't satisfy a CBP officer.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for a UX Research Intern position?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, meaning you can apply when you have an offer rather than waiting for a selection round. H-1B requires entering the lottery in March for an October start, making it impractical for internship timelines. The trade-off is that TN requires clear USMCA category alignment, which UX research roles don't always meet without careful documentation.
What documents does my employer need to provide for a TN filing?
Your employer needs to prepare a detailed support letter on company letterhead describing your role, your specific research duties, the degree requirement for the position, your USMCA category, and the employment terms. For Canadian citizens, this letter goes directly to CBP. For Mexican citizens, it accompanies your DS-160 and consular application package.
Where can I find UX Research Intern jobs that actively offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa type, so you end up applying broadly and finding out late in the process that sponsorship isn't available. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers and surfaces UX Research Intern roles from employers who have already indicated TN sponsorship availability, saving you the back-and-forth.
Can I change employers or extend my TN status after the internship ends?
Yes on both counts. TN status is employer-specific, so starting a new role requires a new TN application tied to the new employer's offer letter. Extensions can be filed at CBP for Canadian citizens or through USCIS for anyone needing a longer runway. Each renewal or new filing must meet the same USMCA category requirements as the original approval.
