Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Graphic Design Specialist
Translate your portfolio into U.S. specialty occupation language
TN officers assess whether your role requires a design-specific degree, not just design skills. Frame your portfolio and resume around deliverables that demand a bachelor's in graphic design or visual communications, not general creativity.
Target employers with dedicated in-house creative teams
Companies with structured creative departments are more familiar with the specialty occupation standard TN requires. Studios, publishing houses, and corporate brand teams are more likely to document the degree-level nature of the role accurately in your support letter.
Verify your job title matches USMCA graphic designer language
The USMCA appendix lists 'Graphic Designer' as a qualifying occupation. If your offer letter uses a hybrid title like 'Marketing Designer' or 'UX Generalist,' work with your employer to ensure the duties description anchors to graphic design, not adjacent functions.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter for non-design majors
If your degree is in fine arts, communications, or a related field rather than graphic design specifically, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before your application. TN officers at the border don't have time to infer equivalency.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers who actively sponsor TN visas
Searching broadly misses employers experienced with visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters Graphic Design Specialist roles by employers with recent visa filings, so you're applying where the sponsorship process is already established and familiar to HR teams.
Confirm your employer's support letter covers all three TN pillars
The support letter must state your profession, the degree requirement for the role, and that the position is temporary. Missing any pillar is a common reason TN applications are deferred at the port of entry, even for straightforward design roles.

Find Graphic Design Specialist JobsGraphic Design Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Graphic Design Specialist role actually qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, graphic designers are explicitly listed as a qualifying profession in the USMCA Appendix. The key requirement is that the role must normally require a bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual arts, or a closely related field. Roles titled 'designer' but primarily requiring generalist marketing or coding skills may face scrutiny if the duties don't align with the design-specific degree requirement.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Graphic Design Specialist positions?
TN is significantly more accessible for this role. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and processing can happen at a U.S. port of entry in a single day. H-1B registration opens once a year and selection is random. For Mexican citizens, TN still requires consular processing but avoids the lottery entirely. Both require employer sponsorship and a qualifying specialty occupation job offer.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN sponsorship as a Graphic Design Specialist?
Yes, Mexican citizens qualify for TN status as graphic designers under USMCA. Unlike Canadian citizens, who can present their application at a U.S. port of entry, Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico and schedule a visa interview. The documentary requirements are identical: a valid job offer, proof of citizenship, and evidence of your qualifying degree.
How do I find Graphic Design Specialist jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, which means sifting through listings where sponsorship is unavailable or undefined. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers, letting you search Graphic Design Specialist roles by employers who have a documented history of TN sponsorship, so you spend less time on applications that won't move forward.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that confirms your job title, a description of duties demonstrating the role requires a graphic design degree, your anticipated length of employment, and a statement that the position is temporary in nature. You'll also need your credential documents. Canadian citizens present this package at the port of entry; Mexican citizens submit it as part of their consular visa application.
