Match your degree to the TN category
TN visa approval for Director of Strategic Accounts roles hinges on whether your employer classifies the position under Management Consultant or Economist. Your degree must correspond to that category, not just to business generally.
Document your strategic advisory scope clearly
CBP officers scrutinize whether a Director of Strategic Accounts actually consults on management strategy versus manages a sales team. Your offer letter must describe advisory, analytical, and strategic planning duties, not quota ownership or direct sales.
Target employers with dedicated immigration support teams
Enterprise SaaS, consulting, and professional services firms in the U.S. regularly sponsor TN visas for senior accounts roles. Prioritize companies that already employ Canadian or Mexican professionals in client-facing leadership positions.
Request a duty-specific support letter from HR
Before your port-of-entry or consular appointment, ask your employer's HR or legal team to draft a letter detailing your specific strategic accounts duties. Vague letters citing only your title are a leading cause of TN requests for additional evidence.
Use Migrate Mate to find active TN sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers currently sponsoring TN visas for Director of Strategic Accounts and related senior accounts roles. Filtering by TN category saves you from applying to companies unfamiliar with the visa.
Understand the Mexican consular appointment timeline
Mexican citizens cannot self-petition at the port of entry for TN status. Plan for a U.S. consular appointment, which can book out several weeks. Confirm your employer is prepared to wait before accepting an offer with a start date.
Director Of Strategic Accounts TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Strategic Accounts role qualify for a TN visa?
It can, but classification depends on how the role is structured and described. Roles emphasizing strategic planning, client advisory work, and market analysis fit the Management Consultant TN category. Roles where the primary duty is managing a sales team or owning a revenue quota are harder to qualify. Your offer letter's duty description is the deciding factor CBP or a consular officer will evaluate.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Director of Strategic Accounts positions?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be obtained at the port of entry in a single day. H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a lottery selection, and USCIS petition processing that can take several months even with premium processing. For Canadian professionals with a qualifying degree, TN is a faster, more predictable path to starting work in a Director of Strategic Accounts role.
What documents do I need to present for a TN visa as a Director of Strategic Accounts?
You need a valid Canadian or Mexican passport, a detailed employer support letter describing your strategic accounts duties and their connection to the TN category, proof of your qualifying bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as business administration or economics, and evidence of Canadian or Mexican citizenship. Mexican citizens also need a DS-160 form and a consular appointment at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor TN visas for this role?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Director of Strategic Accounts positions at employers with TN visa sponsorship history. This filters out companies that either don't sponsor or are unfamiliar with TN classification for senior accounts roles, so you spend your time on applications that can actually move forward.
Can I switch employers while on a TN visa in a Director of Strategic Accounts role?
Yes, but you cannot begin working for a new employer until TN authorization for that employer is obtained. Canadian citizens can go to a port of entry and apply for a new TN on the same day. Mexican citizens must return to a U.S. consulate for a new visa stamp before starting. There is no formal grace period for TN holders the way there is for H-1B, so timing the transition carefully with your new employer is important.
