Map your role to the right TN category
Head of Sales roles most commonly qualify under Management Consultant, not a standalone sales category. Review the USMCA TN visa occupation list and confirm your offer letter describes strategic planning, market analysis, or organizational consulting functions explicitly.
Build a degree-to-role credential package early
TN officers assess whether your credentials directly support the stated role. A business, marketing, or economics degree strengthens your case. Have transcripts, a degree evaluation if issued outside the U.S. or Canada, and your offer letter ready before any border or consulate appointment.
Target employers with cross-border hiring experience
Companies that have sponsored TN professionals before understand what the support letter must include. During outreach, ask whether the employer has hired Canadians or Mexicans on TN status, since inexperienced HR teams often draft letters that omit the qualifying occupation language.
Require a detailed employer support letter upfront
The employer support letter is your primary TN document. It must state your job title, the TN category, your qualifications, the duration, and that the role is temporary in nature. Canadian applicants present this at the port of entry; Mexican applicants submit it at the consulate.
Use Migrate Mate to find Head of Sales roles with TN sponsorship
Searching general job boards rarely surfaces sponsorship-ready postings. Migrate Mate filters for employers actively offering TN visa sponsorship for management and sales leadership roles, cutting out companies that won't support the filing.
Understand the Mexican TN cap before accepting an offer
Mexican citizens face a 5,500 annual TN allocation under USMCA, unlike Canadians who face no numerical cap. If you're a Mexican national, confirm with USCIS processing timelines and plan your offer acceptance and start date to account for consular appointment availability.
Head Of Sales TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Sales role actually qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is defined in your offer letter. Head of Sales positions qualify under the TN Management Consultant category when the duties involve strategic planning, organizational analysis, or market development consulting. Roles focused purely on direct sales supervision without an analytical or advisory component are harder to support. The employer's support letter must frame the position within the qualifying occupation description.
How does TN visa sponsorship for a Head of Sales role compare to H-1B?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and no USCIS petition requirement for Canadians entering at the port of entry. H-1B visa requires a lottery selection, a filed I-129 petition, and months of processing time. For a qualified Canadian or Mexican professional with a TN-eligible offer, TN is faster and more predictable than H-1B, though it requires demonstrating the role fits a listed USMCA occupation.
Where can I find Head of Sales jobs that include TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job postings don't specify visa type, which makes filtering for sponsorship-ready employers time-consuming. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, listing Head of Sales and sales leadership roles where employers have confirmed TN visa sponsorship. Searching there narrows your list to companies already prepared to support the filing rather than those that need to be educated on the process.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a signed support letter that states your job title, the specific TN occupation category, a description of your duties, your qualifications, the employment duration, and confirmation the role is temporary. Canadian citizens also present this letter at the U.S. port of entry alongside their credentials. Mexican citizens submit it as part of the consular packet. A missing or vague support letter is the most common reason TN applications are questioned.
Can I apply for TN status before I have a firm start date?
You need a confirmed job offer, but the start date can be near-term rather than fixed. Canadian professionals can apply at the border as soon as the offer letter is signed. Mexican nationals must schedule a consulate appointment, which adds lead time. Build in at least four to six weeks from offer acceptance if you're a Mexican citizen applying through a U.S. consulate abroad.
