Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Healthcare
Verify your credential meets TN requirements
TN eligibility requires your exact job title to appear on the USMCA healthcare occupations list. A registered nurse qualifies; a care coordinator typically does not. Confirm your credential and role title match before applying.
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
Foreign-trained physicians, nurses, and therapists often need a credential evaluation from a body recognized in the destination state. Missing this step during an offer negotiation delays your start date by weeks or months.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Large hospital systems and multi-state healthcare networks frequently sponsor work visas and have established HR processes for visa candidates. Smaller clinics may be less experienced with visa sponsorship, requiring you to educate them on how to prepare a support letter and the port-of-entry presentation process for TN status.
Search verified sponsorship roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Healthcare roles by TN visa sponsorship status, so you apply only to employers already set up to sponsor. This cuts the time spent on roles that require you to convince an unprepared HR team.
Request a support letter that matches your TN category
Your employer's TN support letter must name the exact USMCA occupation category, describe your specific duties, and state the employment period. A letter that describes generic healthcare duties without matching the listed category is grounds for CBP denial.
Understand state licensure timelines before your TN is approved
Many healthcare roles require an active state license before you can legally work, but licenses take weeks to process. Coordinate your TN filing timeline with your licensure application so both are ready at your start date.

Find Healthcare JobsHealthcare TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which healthcare roles qualify for a TN visa under USMCA?
The USMCA lists specific healthcare occupations by title, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, medical laboratory technologists, dietitians, and pharmacists. Your job title in the offer letter must match one of these listed categories exactly. Broad titles like healthcare coordinator or clinical manager do not qualify without a clear connection to a listed occupation.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for healthcare professionals?
For Canadian citizens, TN is far more practical than H-1B because there is no annual lottery, no cap, and no multi-month USCIS adjudication. Canadians can present at a port of entry and receive TN admission the same day. Mexican citizens use consular processing, which takes longer but still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. H-1B makes sense mainly if your role does not appear on the USMCA list.
Can I use Migrate Mate to find Healthcare jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Migrate Mate is built specifically to help Canadian and Mexican professionals find roles where employers are already prepared to sponsor TN visas. You can filter by job category, including Healthcare, and focus your search on positions where sponsorship is confirmed rather than spending time on employers unfamiliar with the TN process.
Do I need a state license before my TN visa is approved?
CBP does not require an active state license to grant TN status, but your employer will require one before you can legally practice in most clinical roles. Nurses need NCLEX passage and a state board license; physicians need state medical licensure. Coordinate your license application and TN filing so both are in place by your agreed start date.
How long is a TN visa valid for healthcare workers, and can it be renewed?
TN status is granted for up to three years per entry. There is no statutory limit on renewals, so you can extend indefinitely as long as you maintain a qualifying employer and job title. Canadians renew at a port of entry with updated employment documentation; Mexican citizens renew through the U.S. consulate. USCIS also accepts I-129 petitions for TN renewals from inside the United States.
