Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Home Health Nurse
Verify your credentials meet TN requirements
TN visa sponsorship for Home Health Nurses requires an RN license valid in the state where you'll work, not just your home country. Confirm your NCLEX passage and check whether your degree meets U.S. credential equivalency standards before applying.
Target agencies with dedicated clinical staffing
Home health agencies and visiting nurse organizations file TN petitions regularly for clinical roles. Focus your search on providers that employ large nursing teams across multiple states, as they're more likely to have an established TN filing process.
Request an offer letter that specifies clinical duties
Your TN documentation must show the role is a specialty occupation tied to nursing. Ask your employer to describe patient assessment, care planning, and treatment administration duties explicitly so the offer letter aligns with USCIS's Registered Nurse definition.
Understand the Mexican TN consular process early
Mexican nationals must schedule a consular appointment rather than presenting at a port of entry. Build at least eight to twelve weeks into your timeline before your start date to account for appointment availability and document preparation.
Search for TN-sponsoring home health employers on Migrate Mate
Filter by role and visa type to find home health employers actively filing TN petitions for nurses. Migrate Mate surfaces sponsorship history so you can prioritize outreach to agencies that have already navigated the process.
Prepare for state license transfer before your start date
TN status is employer- and state-specific. If your nursing license is issued in a non-compact state, begin the endorsement application for your work state as soon as you receive your offer to avoid gaps between your TN approval and your first shift.
Home Health Nurse TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Home Health Nurse role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Registered Nurse is an explicitly listed occupation under the USMCA TN category. Home health nursing qualifies as long as your offer letter describes duties consistent with professional nursing practice, including patient assessment, medication administration, and care coordination. General caregiver or home aide roles do not qualify, so the job title and description matter.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Home Health Nurses?
TN is available every year with no lottery and no annual cap for Canadians. H-1B visa is subject to an annual lottery, meaning qualified nurses can be rejected purely by chance. TN also processes faster, often the same day for Canadians at the port of entry. The tradeoff is that TN is nonimmigrant and doesn't lead directly to a green card the way H-1B can.
Can a Mexican RN get TN sponsorship for a home health position?
Yes, but the process differs from the Canadian pathway. Mexican nationals must apply at a U.S. consulate and attend a visa interview rather than presenting at the border. You'll need a valid job offer, proof of RN licensure in the destination state, and educational credentials showing a nursing degree. Processing timelines depend on consulate availability, so plan accordingly.
What documents does my home health employer need to sponsor my TN visa?
Your employer prepares a support letter confirming your job title, duties, anticipated length of employment, and your credentials as a Registered Nurse. You provide your RN license, nursing degree, and NCLEX results. Canadians present these at the port of entry. Mexican nationals submit them as part of the DS-160 consular application package. Migrate Mate can help you identify employers already familiar with this document set.
Can I switch home health employers after getting TN status?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. You'll need a new TN approval tied to the new employer before or at the time you start working there. Canadians can obtain a new TN at the port of entry with the new employer's support letter. Mexican nationals must return to a consulate. There's no grace period equivalent to the H-1B's 60-day rule, so coordinate your transition carefully.
