TN Visa Behavioral Health Manager Jobs
Behavioral Health Manager roles qualify for TN visa sponsorship under the USMCA's psychologist and social worker categories, depending on your credentials and the position's clinical oversight requirements. Canadian professionals enter at the port of entry with no lottery wait. Mexican nationals apply through a U.S. consulate. Both paths require a qualifying degree and a U.S. employer offer.

Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
As part of the Department of Population Health, the Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM) will be centrally supporting five primary care practices within the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow (UM Health-Sparrow) system. Building on a strong foundation of Behavioral Health Integration (BHI), the team will be launching Collaborative Care (CoCM) as a new program, assisting both patients and providers in an integrated care model.
Common Duties and Responsibilities:
As a member of the larger ambulatory behavioral health team, this BHCM will play a vital role specific to rolling out CoCM to improve access for patients with depression, anxiety and other mental health diagnoses. The goal of this program is to integrate behavioral health services into primary care offices to offer assistance that supports the wellbeing of both the patient’s physical and mental health.
Specifically, CoCM focuses on a defined patient population who are tracked in a registry to monitor treatment progression. The treatment plan focuses on measurement-based treatment to target, to ensure the patient’s goals and clinical outcomes are met. The CoCM team includes the primary care provider, the BHCM, and a psychiatric consultant to meet regularly for a caseload review where there are opportunities to adjust the plan of care for patients. The BHCM is the heart of the CoCM, facilitating communication amongst all team members and acting as the lead point of contact for the patients enrolled.
This position is a great opportunity to be a valuable part of a multidisciplinary team within the primary care practices.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Team members may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Supports the mental and physical healthcare of patients on an assigned patient caseload while coordinating care with the patient’s medical provider and, when appropriate, other mental health providers.
- Screens and assesses patients for common mental health and substance abuse disorders. Facilitates patient engagement and follow-up care.
- Provides patient education about common mental health and substance abuse disorders and the available treatment options.
- Systematically tracks treatment responses and monitors patients (in person or by telephone) for changes in clinical symptoms and treatment side effects or complications.
- Supports psychotropic medication management as prescribed by medical providers, focusing on treatment adherence monitoring, side effects, and effectiveness of treatment.
- Provides brief behavioral interventions using evidence-based techniques such as behavioral activation, problem-solving treatment, motivational interviewing, or other treatments as appropriate.
- Provides or facilitates in-clinic or outside referrals to evidence-based psychosocial treatments (e.g. problem-solving treatment or behavioral activation) as clinically indicated.
- Participates in regularly scheduled (usually weekly) caseload consultation with the psychiatric consultant and communicates resulting treatment recommendations to the patient’s medical provider. Consultations will focus on patients new to the caseload and those who are not improving as expected under the current treatment plan. Case reviews may be conducted by telephone, video, or in person.
- Tracks patient follow-up and clinical outcomes using a registry. Documents in-person and telephone encounters in the registry and uses the system to identify and re-engage patients.
- Documents patient progress and treatment recommendations in Epic and other required systems so as to be shared with medical providers, the psychiatric consultants, and other treating providers.
- Facilitates treatment plan changes for patients who are not improving as expected in consultation with the medical provider and the psychiatric consultant and who may need more intensive or more specialized mental health care.
- Facilitates referrals for clinically indicated services outside of the organization (e.g., social services such as housing assistance, vocational rehabilitation, mental health specialty care, substance abuse treatment).
- Develops and completes relapse prevention self-management plan with patients who have achieved their treatment goals and are soon to be discharged from the caseload.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Behavioral Health Manager
Match your credentials to the right TN category
Behavioral Health Manager roles can qualify under the psychologist, social worker, or counselor TN categories depending on your degree and licensure. Confirm which category your credentials support before applying, since mismatches cause CBP denials at the port of entry.
Target employers with behavioral health infrastructure
Health systems, federally qualified health centers, and multistate behavioral health organizations are familiar with TN sponsorship requirements. These employers already maintain HR processes for professional work authorization, which shortens the time between offer and your TN filing.
Request a support letter that names your TN category
Ask your employer to include your specific TN occupational category in the support letter, not just your job title. CBP officers verify that the role and your credentials align with the category listed, and vague letters are a common cause of secondary inspection delays.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers actively sponsoring TN roles
Migrate Mate filters Behavioral Health Manager jobs by TN visa sponsorship, so you're not cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the process. Start your search there to identify organizations already set up to handle your filing.
Prepare credential documentation before the interview stage
Have your degree transcripts, professional license, and any CGFNS or credential equivalency letters ready before you receive an offer. Mexican nationals filing at a consulate need these documents apostilled or certified, and gathering them after an offer wastes time.
Clarify who files what before you accept the offer
For TN status, the employer provides the support letter but you present the full application package at the port of entry or consulate. Confirm your employer understands this division of responsibility during the negotiation stage, not after your start date is set.

Find Behavioral Health Manager JobsBehavioral Health Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Behavioral Health Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is structured and what credentials you hold. TN status requires the position to fall under a listed USMCA occupation such as psychologist, social worker, or counselor. If your job title is managerial but your duties are primarily clinical and your degree aligns with one of those categories, the role can qualify. Purely administrative management positions without a clinical credential match typically do not.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Behavioral Health Manager positions?
TN is faster and more predictable for qualifying roles. There is no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and Canadian nationals can be approved at the port of entry the same day. H-1B requires a lottery selection, a USCIS petition, and months of processing. The trade-off is that TN is nonimmigrant and does not provide a direct path to permanent residence, while H-1B allows dual intent.
How can I find Behavioral Health Manager jobs that already offer TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by TN visa sponsorship and job title to surface employers already set up to support your filing. This saves time you'd otherwise spend screening postings from employers unfamiliar with TN status, and it connects you with organizations that have experience processing professional work authorization for behavioral health roles.
What documents do Mexican nationals need for a Behavioral Health Manager TN application?
Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate rather than a port of entry. You'll need a completed DS-160, your employer's TN support letter, proof of Canadian or Mexican citizenship, your degree transcripts, and your professional license. If your credentials were issued outside the U.S., consular officers may also request a credential evaluation from a recognized equivalency service. Start gathering these before your interview offer arrives.
Can a Behavioral Health Manager TN visa be renewed, and how long does status last?
TN status is granted in increments of up to three years and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you remain in a qualifying role with a sponsoring employer. Renewals follow the same process as the initial application. Canadian nationals can renew at a port of entry or through USCIS; Mexican nationals renew through the consulate. There is no statutory limit on the number of renewals.
