Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Medical Doctor
Verify your degree meets TN standards
TN status for Medical Doctors requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree at minimum. Confirm your medical credential is recognized as equivalent to a U.S. MD or DO before approaching any employer about sponsorship.
Target teaching hospitals and health systems
Academic medical centers and large health systems have dedicated immigration teams that routinely process TN documentation for physicians. Their HR departments already understand the support letter and credential requirements specific to Medical Doctor TN filings.
Secure your state medical license before the offer stage
Most U.S. employers won't extend a final offer to a foreign physician without proof of licensure in the state where you'll practice. Start the licensing process early since state medical boards can take several months to process applications.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers actively sponsoring TN roles
Search Migrate Mate to identify Medical Doctor positions at employers with active TN visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to organizations unfamiliar with the process or unlikely to support your filing.
Prepare a detailed employer support letter for CBP
Canadian applicants present their TN packet directly to a CBP officer at the port of entry. Your employer's support letter must specify your MD title, the professional capacity of the role, and that the position qualifies under the USMCA Medical/Allied Professionals category.
Request a TN period that aligns with your contract term
TN status is granted in increments of up to three years. Negotiate your employment contract length first, then ask your employer to request a matching TN period so your status doesn't expire mid-contract and require an early extension filing.

Find Medical Doctor JobsMedical Doctor TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Medical Doctor role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Medical Doctors are explicitly listed under the USMCA TN professional categories. You must hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution and have a job offer for a position in which you'll practice medicine in a professional capacity, not in a purely administrative or research role that doesn't require a medical license.
How does TN compare to H-1B for physician positions?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no lengthy USCIS petition queue. Canadians can get TN status approved at a port of entry the same day they present their documents. H-1B requires a lottery selection, a months-long USCIS adjudication period, and employer filing fees that TN doesn't require. For qualified Canadian and Mexican physicians, TN is almost always faster.
Can I work at multiple hospital locations on a single TN approval?
Your TN is tied to the petitioning employer, not a single physical location. If your employer operates multiple facilities and your offer letter covers work across those sites, you can generally rotate between them. However, working for a separate employer requires a new TN filing. Confirm the scope of your role with your employer's immigration counsel before starting.
Where can I find Medical Doctor jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles that include TN visa sponsorship. You can filter by occupation category, so you're only seeing Medical Doctor positions at employers prepared to support the TN process, which saves time compared to contacting employers who have no familiarity with USMCA visa categories.
What documents does a Mexican physician need for a TN visa appointment?
Mexican applicants must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than at the port of entry. You'll need a valid passport, DS-160 confirmation, visa application fee receipt, employer support letter, proof of your medical degree, and evidence of licensure or exam results such as USMLE scores. Wait times at consulates vary, so schedule your appointment as soon as you have a signed offer.
