Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Lecturer
Gather transcripts proving your field of study
TN status for Lecturers requires a baccalaureate or higher in the subject you'll teach. Get official sealed transcripts ready before applying, since the subject field on your degree must align with your assigned courses.
Target institutions with international faculty hiring experience
Community colleges, research universities, and technical institutes regularly hire TN-sponsored Lecturers and know the documentation process. Departments in STEM, business, and nursing tend to move faster because they've done it before.
Ask HR to specify your teaching assignment in the offer letter
CBP officers reviewing TN petitions want to see the specific courses, hours per week, and academic term covered. A vague offer letter is the most common reason a Lecturer TN gets questioned at the port of entry.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers actively sponsoring TN visas
Search for Lecturer roles at employers with recent visa filings on Migrate Mate. Focusing on employers experienced with visa sponsorship cuts the time you spend educating HR about a visa category they've never processed.
Clarify whether Mexican nationals need consular processing
Unlike Canadians, Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate and obtain a TN visa stamp before entering. Build at least four to six weeks into your timeline for the appointment and processing after receiving a job offer.
Confirm your role qualifies if the title isn't exactly 'Lecturer'
Adjunct instructor, visiting scholar, and teaching fellow can all qualify under the TN Lecturer category, but the duties and degree requirement must match. USCIS guidance focuses on the actual teaching function, not the job title alone.

Find Lecturer JobsLecturer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Lecturer role qualify for the TN visa?
Yes. Lecturer is an explicitly listed TN visa occupation under USMCA. You need a baccalaureate or higher in the subject area you'll teach, and the role must involve actual classroom or course instruction. Roles focused primarily on research without a teaching component may not qualify under the Lecturer category and could require a different visa classification.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Lecturer positions?
TN has a clear advantage for Lecturers: there's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and Canadians can activate status at the border on the same day they start. H-1B requires a petition filed months in advance, a lottery selection, and a fixed October 1 start date. For academic hiring cycles that move quickly, TN is a much faster path to employment.
Can a part-time or adjunct Lecturer position support a TN visa?
Part-time and adjunct positions can qualify, but the arrangement must still reflect a genuine employment relationship. The employer needs to provide a formal offer letter confirming duties, compensation, and term dates. Very short-term or purely per-course contracts with no defined schedule can raise questions at the port of entry about whether the position constitutes legitimate TN-qualifying employment.
Where can I find Lecturer jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. You can search Lecturer positions filtered by employers who have actively sponsored TN visas, which helps you focus on institutions already familiar with the documentation process rather than spending time educating unfamiliar HR departments.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer needs to provide a formal support letter on company letterhead stating your job title, a description of your teaching duties, the specific courses or subjects you'll cover, your start and end dates, and confirmation that you hold the required degree. Canadians present this letter at the border alongside their credentials. Mexican nationals submit it as part of their consular visa application package.
