Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Operating Room Technician
Align your credentials to TN requirements
TN approval for OR Technicians depends on documented surgical technology training. A CSFA credential or an accredited surgical tech program certificate directly supports your specialty occupation classification. Gather your transcripts and credential certificates before targeting employers.
Use Migrate Mate to find OR Technician jobs with active TN sponsorship
Migrate Mate filters roles by TN visa sponsorship history and occupation category, cutting the guesswork of cold-applying. Search specifically under Medical and Allied Health to surface OR Technician openings from employers already familiar with the process.
Clarify your job offer letter covers specialty occupation language
The TN support letter must describe duties that match a recognized USMCA professional category, not just a generic job title. Confirm your offer letter specifies surgical technology responsibilities, required credentials, and the specialty nature of the OR role before your port of entry or consular appointment.
Prepare for state licensure questions at the border
Some CBP officers ask whether your state requires surgical tech licensure and whether you hold it. Check your destination state's requirements before traveling. Carrying a letter from your employer confirming state compliance removes ambiguity at the inspection booth.
Understand renewal timing so your authorization stays continuous
TN status is granted in three-year increments with unlimited renewals. File your renewal or extension before your current period expires to maintain work authorization. Canadians can renew at the port of entry; Mexican citizens must return to a U.S. consulate.

Find Operating Room Technician JobsOperating Room Technician TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Operating Room Technician qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, OR Technicians can qualify under the TN Medical and Allied Professionals category when the role requires specialized surgical technology training and the job duties reflect a specialty occupation. Your employer's support letter must describe the surgical responsibilities specifically, not just reference a general technician title, to satisfy CBP or consular review.
How does TN compare to H-1B for OR Technician positions?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no multi-year wait to begin working. H-1B selection is randomized and limited to 85,000 slots per fiscal year. For OR Technicians with a firm job offer and qualifying credentials, TN is a faster and more predictable path than waiting through one or more H-1B lottery cycles.
Where can I find OR Technician jobs that already support TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers and filters listings by sponsorship history and occupation category. Searching under Medical and Allied Health on Migrate Mate surfaces OR Technician openings from hospital systems and surgery centers that understand the TN support letter process, reducing the back-and-forth with unfamiliar HR departments.
What documents does a Canadian OR Technician need at the port of entry?
You need your employer's TN support letter describing your OR duties and specialty occupation classification, proof of your surgical technology credential or relevant training, your Canadian passport, and the DS-160 is not required for Canadians. CBP processes TN applications at the border, so Canadians don't need to schedule a consular appointment in advance.
Can a Mexican OR Technician apply for TN status the same way a Canadian can?
No. Mexican citizens cannot apply at the port of entry. You must apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate in Mexico, which requires scheduling an appointment, completing the DS-160, paying the visa application fee, and attending an interview. Once issued, your TN visa allows entry in three-year increments, the same as for Canadian nationals.
