Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Speech Therapist
Verify your ASHA CCC before applying
Canadian and Mexican SLPs must hold an active Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA to qualify under TN. Provincial licensure alone won't satisfy the credential requirement most U.S. employers expect at the offer stage.
Target hospitals with established immigration support
Large health systems and pediatric hospitals routinely sponsor TN visas for SLPs because they have HR teams familiar with the process. Outpatient private practices often lack that infrastructure, making the filing slower and more error-prone.
Search TN-specific listings through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters jobs by TN visa sponsorship, so you're not guessing which employers will actually file. Search by Speech Therapist role to surface openings already matched to your visa category.
Prepare a credential package before your offer
Assemble your master's degree transcripts, ASHA CCC documentation, and any U.S. state licensure letters before negotiations close. Canadian applicants crossing at a port of entry can be approved same-day if documents are complete.
Clarify the TN filing route with your employer early
Canadians can file at the port of entry without a prior USCIS petition. Mexican nationals need consular processing, which requires additional lead time. Confirm which route your employer's HR team is prepared to support before you accept.
Address state licensure timing in your offer letter
Several states allow provisional SLP licensure while a full license is pending. If your state license isn't finalized at the time of your TN filing, ask your employer to include a timeline for full licensure in the job offer documentation.

Find Speech Therapist JobsSpeech Therapist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Speech Therapist qualify for the TN visa?
Yes. Speech Therapist is explicitly listed as a qualifying occupation under USMCA for TN visa purposes. To qualify, you need a master's degree in speech-language pathology or communication disorders, along with a job offer from a U.S. employer. A bachelor's degree alone is generally insufficient for this category.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Speech Therapists?
The TN visa has no annual cap and no lottery, so Canadian SLPs can apply any time they have a job offer. H-1B selection is lottery-based, limited to 85,000 slots per fiscal year, and typically takes months of USCIS processing. For Canadian SLPs, TN is almost always faster and more predictable. Mexican nationals face a 5,500 annual TN allocation, which can create delays.
Can I use Migrate Mate to find Speech Therapist jobs that sponsor TN visas?
Yes. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN and other work visa categories, so you can search for Speech Therapist roles filtered by sponsorship availability. This removes the manual work of screening employers who won't file, which is one of the more time-consuming parts of a TN job search.
Does my Canadian provincial SLP license transfer to the U.S.?
No. Canadian provincial licensure is not recognized in U.S. states. You'll need to apply for licensure in the specific state where you'll be working. Requirements vary by state, but most require passing the Praxis examination in Speech-Language Pathology. Some states offer provisional or temporary licenses while your full application is reviewed.
What documents does my employer need to file my TN visa as an SLP?
Your employer needs to provide a signed job offer letter that specifies your title, duties, qualifications required, and that the position is a temporary professional arrangement. You'll need to supply your master's degree transcripts and ASHA CCC documentation. Canadian applicants present these at the border; Mexican nationals submit them as part of consular processing at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
