Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Product Development Intern
Align your degree to the TN category
TN approval depends on matching your credential to an approved occupation. A product development intern role must map to Engineer, Computer Systems Analyst, or a related USMCA category. Mismatched degrees are the most common filing failure for this role.
Translate your credentials into U.S. terms
Canadian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for TN purposes. Mexican applicants should obtain a credential evaluation from an accepted evaluator before the employer files to avoid delays at the consulate.
Target employers with active USMCA hiring history
Search for employers with recent visa filings to confirm that a company has experience sponsoring work visas for engineering or tech roles. Employers experienced with visa sponsorship generally understand the sponsorship process and are more likely to support intern-level candidates.
Frame intern duties in specialty occupation language
Your offer letter must describe work requiring a theoretical and practical application of engineering or computer science knowledge. Vague intern descriptions like 'assist the product team' won't satisfy the TN standard. Ask your employer to specify the technical scope of your duties.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers fast
Instead of filtering job boards manually, use Migrate Mate to search product development intern roles at employers with recent visa filings and demonstrated sponsorship experience. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with work visa processes.
Confirm Canadian vs. Mexican processing before accepting an offer
Canadian citizens can present TN documents at a port of entry and begin work almost immediately. Mexican citizens need a consular appointment, which adds weeks to the timeline. Factor this into your start date negotiation so the employer isn't caught off guard.

Find Product Development Intern JobsProduct Development Intern TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a product development intern role actually qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
It depends on how the role is defined and which USMCA category your degree maps to. If your duties involve engineering design, software systems analysis, or applied technical research and you hold a qualifying degree, the role can qualify under the Engineer or Computer Systems Analyst category. A generic internship description without technical specificity will not satisfy TN requirements.
How does TN compare to H-1B for a product development intern position?
TN is faster and more predictable for Canadian and Mexican nationals. There is no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and approval can come at the border the same day for Canadian applicants. H-1B requires entering a lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate, and results take months. For a time-sensitive internship, TN is the practical choice when you qualify.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN sponsorship?
Your employer needs to prepare a detailed support letter describing your role, the USMCA category it falls under, your proposed start and end dates, and confirmation that your position requires a degree in a qualifying field. They'll also need a copy of your degree and transcripts. For Mexican applicants, the employer may also need to support a DS-160 application and consular packet.
Where can I find product development intern jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. Instead of sifting through postings that don't disclose sponsorship status, Migrate Mate surfaces companies with confirmed USMCA hiring history for engineering and tech intern roles, so you can apply where you actually have a shot.
Can I extend my TN status if my internship converts to a full-time product development role?
Yes. TN status is tied to the specific job and employer, so a role change requires a new TN filing. If your duties shift from intern-level to a full-time product development position, your employer must submit a new support letter reflecting the updated title, responsibilities, and duration. USCIS or CBP will evaluate the new role independently of your original TN approval.
