Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Project Site Manager
Align your credentials to engineering requirements
CBP evaluates Project Site Managers under the Engineer TN visa category, so your degree must be in engineering, construction management, or a closely related field. A business administration degree alone will not satisfy the requirement, even with years of site management experience.
Target employers with active federal contracts
Companies holding federal or state infrastructure contracts are accustomed to TN sponsorship paperwork and often have in-house legal teams. Filter your search by employers working on DOT-funded, Army Corps, or public utilities projects, where TN documentation is routine.
Request a detailed offer letter before the border
CBP officers need to see that your offer letter specifies your engineering-level duties, not just the job title. Ask your employer to describe scope-of-work responsibilities, project value, and reporting structure explicitly. Vague letters cause denials at ports of entry.
Prepare for Mexican nationals' annual cap limits
If you hold Mexican citizenship, the TN allocation is capped annually. File early in the fiscal year and confirm your employer understands USCIS processing timelines. Canadians can self-file at the border with same-day decisions, so the timing strategy differs significantly by nationality.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN sponsor employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Project Site Manager openings at employers already familiar with TN visa sponsorship. Filtering by visa type saves you from negotiating sponsorship eligibility from scratch with employers who have never filed a TN before.
Clarify subcontractor arrangements before your interview
CBP and USCIS scrutinize TN petitions where the site manager will be placed at a third-party project site rather than working directly for the petitioning employer. Confirm with your employer whether you'll be on their direct payroll or deployed through a general contractor arrangement.
Project Site Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Site Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, but the classification depends on how your role is defined. CBP typically approves Project Site Managers under the Engineer TN category, which requires a qualifying degree in engineering or a closely related discipline. If your offer letter describes supervisory or administrative duties without emphasizing the technical engineering scope, CBP may question eligibility. Your employer's offer letter framing is critical.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Project Site Managers?
TN visa sponsorship is faster and more predictable for this role than H-1B visa. There is no lottery, no cap for Canadian nationals, and Canadians can receive same-day approval at a port of entry. H-1B requires USCIS petition processing and lottery selection. For Mexican nationals, TN involves an annual cap but still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely, making it a more direct path for USMCA citizens.
Where can I find Project Site Manager jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. Searching there lets you filter for employers already open to TN applicants, avoiding the friction of persuading unfamiliar HR teams. Many construction and infrastructure employers who sponsor regularly post directly to platforms that serve USMCA professionals.
Can a Project Site Manager on TN status change employers mid-project?
Yes, but the process restarts with each employer change. For Canadian nationals, this means presenting a new offer letter and TN documentation at a port of entry or applying for a change of status through USCIS. For Mexican nationals, a new USCIS petition is required. You cannot transfer your TN status from one employer to another automatically, so plan your transition timing carefully to avoid gaps.
What happens if my Project Site Manager duties shift after I enter on TN status?
If your role expands significantly, such as taking on program-level oversight or moving from direct site supervision into a primarily administrative function, your original TN approval may no longer accurately reflect your actual duties. CBP and USCIS can deny renewal or extension if the role has drifted from the approved engineering category. Work with your employer to update your offer letter and document any changes before your TN renewal.
