Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Restaurant Assistant Manager
Match your degree to the role
TN approval depends on a direct connection between your credential and the position. A degree in hospitality management, business administration, or restaurant management maps cleanly. A general arts degree without relevant coursework creates a documentation gap you'll need to address upfront.
Target multi-unit and corporate restaurant groups
Chains and franchised groups with HR departments are more likely to have handled TN sponsorship before. A hiring manager at a single-location independent restaurant may not know the process, which delays offers. Focus your search on operators with regional or national footprints.
Request a support letter covering specialty duties
Your employer's support letter must describe your role in terms of specialized oversight, not routine floor management. Ask them to detail budget responsibility, staff scheduling systems, and vendor coordination. Generic job descriptions increase RFE risk at the port of entry or consulate.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Identify Restaurant Assistant Manager openings from employers already familiar with TN sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters listings by sponsorship history so you spend time on roles where the employer won't need a primer on USMCA before agreeing to file.
Prepare for same-day Canadian border processing
Canadian citizens can apply for TN status directly at a U.S. port of entry with no visa appointment required. Bring your employer support letter, degree credentials, and offer letter. CBP officers adjudicate on the spot, so your documents need to be complete and consistent before you travel.
Understand the Mexican consular appointment timeline
Mexican citizens must attend a U.S. consular interview and cannot seek TN status at the border. Schedule your appointment as early as possible after receiving your offer, since wait times at U.S. consulates in Mexico vary by city and season and can affect your start date.

Find Restaurant Assistant Manager JobsRestaurant Assistant Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Restaurant Assistant Manager role qualify for a TN visa?
It can, but qualification is not automatic. The TN visa category that covers this role is typically Management Consultant, which requires the position to involve specialized management functions rather than routine operational tasks. Your employer's support letter must frame the role around responsibilities like financial oversight, staff performance systems, and vendor management, and your degree must align with those duties.
How does TN visa sponsorship for this role compare to H-1B?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start the process after receiving a job offer without waiting for a selection cycle. H-1B requires registration in March, a random lottery draw, and a start date no earlier than October 1. For a Restaurant Assistant Manager with a qualifying degree and a willing employer, TN is a significantly faster path to starting work.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer needs to write a detailed support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, a description of duties that reflects specialized management functions, your start date, the terms of employment, and confirmation that you meet the educational requirements. The letter should not read like a generic job posting. CBP officers or consular officials use it as the primary basis for adjudicating your TN application.
Where can I find Restaurant Assistant Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. Listings are filtered by sponsorship history, so you can identify employers already familiar with the USMCA process rather than spending time educating hiring managers who have never handled a TN filing. This shortens the time between offer and start date.
Can Mexican citizens apply for TN status at the U.S. border like Canadians can?
No. Mexican citizens must apply for a TN visa through a U.S. consulate in Mexico and attend an in-person interview. Only Canadian citizens can seek TN status directly at a U.S. port of entry without a visa. Mexican nationals should account for consular appointment wait times when negotiating a start date with their employer, since delays vary significantly by location.
